Can not start "Devil by the well"

hi,
completed all of the quests according to the professional achievement. i cant talk to that quest guy and on the notice board there isnt any quest. how can i trigger it?

Perhaps it is already started. What exactly does your quest log say?

The quest starts by reading notice board in the village. Some of the papers on the board are just small lore pieces but larger piece is witcher contract. Once you pick it from the board the quest will appear in your quest log.

In your quest log it is placed under witcher contracts category, not under main or side quests.

i know how this game works :). after ending of the main story that quest isnt available on board anymore. its a known bug of the game.i thought there might be another possibility to encounter the quest.

Devil in the well and all of the other side quests in White Orchard will either fail automatically once the fight in the tavern is triggered or blocked from activating after that point in the game is reached.

it didnt fail... when i go to white orchard before i fight eredin i can accept the quest.

the header reads "Can not start "Devil by the well""... its a bug they dont fix. the quest isnt there and the guy with the daughter stucks in his position.

Don't know what header you're talking about, but it looks like you're blocked from doing the quest since you're long past the point where White Orchard side-quests could be accepted.

i try to explain why this is not the case. i have a savegame before i killed eredin and with this savegame i could accept the quest. after the story ending with ciri etc. i cant accept it anymore. i did all of the witcher quests after the main story so its the only missing one.

thats simply a bug and no one cares about it...

More like you being able to accept the quest before Eredin is a bug in itself.

You can believe it or you can not, but side-quests in White Orchard are supposed to fail if players progress past the tavern brawl towards the end of that chapter. Failing to acquire a quest there before the cut-off point simply renders it a non-starter.

As a contract quest, it MIGHT appear to be exempt from this rule but the context given in the quest itself might help. The farmer's daughter is DYING because there isn't any clean water necessary to help her recover from her illness. When Geralt arrives in White Orchard, he still has some time to take up the quest to help the farmer's daughter. Do you really think the farmer's daughter is STILL ALIVE after weeks/months in Velen, Novigrad and Skellige (not to mention once the main story with Ciri is concluded it is MONTHS after her disappearance through the portal in Tor Zirael)

many other contracts should fail as time goes by... thats human logic and i know what you mean but there are other contracts which should work the same way. i only want that professionalist achievement, id rather use a savegame from someone instead of playing all 27 again.

If you just want the achievement, then there's no need for Devil in the Well. One of the patches removed it from the 26 required to earn the achievement.

I still doubt it's a bug since the side quests and contract quest in White Orchard serve as the game's tutorial for quests and map features (Kaer Morhen is the controls tutorial). Miss out on the side quests in White Orchard before the big tavern brawl and they all fail once Geralt leaves.

That or accepting the quest and not finishing it before letting Ciri through the portal might have broken something somewhere. Tried verifying the game details?

hm, that sounds good but i completed 26 contracts (miners included) and didnt get the achievement.
