Where should I start in the Witcher games?
Ive never played a Witcher Game. Where said I start? Witcher 1, 2, 3?

Witcher 1 and 2 also have a good story but the controls are quite clunky and boss fight balances are sometimes between hard and unfair because of the controls (up until now i don't now how to kill the boss dog in witcher 1 without cheesing him between the shack and hut or Letho in witcher 2 without cheesing him with 30-50 throwing knives on hardest difficulty!).

The 3 games also don't have a connected story and are quite closed in themself. Characters from the first 2 games also appear in witcher 3 and their backgrounds are explained multiple times so you shouldn't have any problem following the story. The important characters like Ciri and Yennefer also appear in part 3 the first time.

Do you care for the gameplay first and lore second or the other way around ?

Play the last game. It's easily the best game and there is so much content that it's best not to delay. Make sure you play the DLC as well.

I only played number 3 and enjoyed it a lot, truly is a masterpiece (although Gearalt does mention a little about things in the past I had no idea about). Also watching the tv seris and its interesting to see the main characters of the game before they all knew each other. However I am getting the impression that the TV show isn't following the books much, so I might read them instead.

All witcher games are great.
But I should say Witcher 3 is masterpiece - its far best in almost all sort of things.
It would be hard to start with 3rd and than go to 2nd or 1st Witcher.
If you know you want to play them all - start on start. 1 - 2 - 3
There are tons of mods for every Witcher game - and they re really easy to install - so you can make even older Witcher 1 looks really nice.

But if you arent a big fan of this (book) serie and you just want to play the best Witcher game - you should definately go with Witcher 3.
DLCs are also great and worth play.
The game with DLCs took me around 175 hrs - I didnt rush but also I didnt chill too much.
So, yeah. Its brilliant and long game - ideal for playing during winter :)

Go 3 because 1 will put you off.

if you love 3 and cant get enough you can play 1 and 2 and then replay 3maybe.

I played all, read all the books, and just watched the show on netflix, terrible, I highly recommand you to read the books, but if you just want to play, unfortunately, witcher 1 aged terribly, it's okay cause it's old and cdprojekt was young society, the gameplay of the 2 is annoying, graphismes are not bad, 2011 ( like skyrim) but the story is, for me, outstanding, I loved it, and the 3...well the 3 is just a masterpiece on every single point, truely <3 so, maybe just watch playtrough, and/or every cinematics of the two first, then buy the witcher 3, sales right now, really cheap, with all dlcs !! this game really changed my mind and my opinion about videosgames !
