I feel bad for Shani. [Spoilers]
In that scene where shes sitting at the table and sad about being focused on school/work and not having anyone to go home to, really hit my feels. Sure, she and Geralt got to spend a romantic night together but nothing has changed. I really wish she was an END GAME romance option (in the same sense as Triss and Yennefer) because I think Geralt was really considering settling down following the war. If you have read the books and could shine a light more on what happens between them (thats not covered in the games), please do share.

She's a very minor character in the books (you hear of her twice, once when she briefly helps geralt find some mage and another time when she's a medic at the battle of brenna). They don't really know each other prior to the first game, they just crossed paths.

Is it canon to say that Geralt would consider settling down with one of the girls OR is it more in his character to be that lone wolf character moving from place to place (wherever his work takes him) ?

Depends on if you're talking book canon or game canon really. The game canon is different because it's got a lot more added into it than simply what happened in the books. So while in the books, Shani is minor, her development and her relationship with Geralt is in the games. So it's not like she's a minor character when it comes to the Witcher 3, because you've spent time with her (and romantic time depending on your choices in W2) in the past.

In the books, Geralt's One True Love is Yennefer. No matter how many times they mess each other over, or how bad their relationship becomes for themselves (Geralt at one point attempts suicide via battle over it) they're always going back to each other. And the author of the books did write a non-canon story where Geralt and Yen do get married. So technically you could say that he'd settle down and get hitched even by the book standards.

But the games are a different canon, and they grow characters in different ways. They are additive to the books, not bound strictly to them.

So how Geralt's base personality develops is really up to the player. There is no "right" or "wrong" answer. And every choice you make in the game has some basis in Geralt's canon character anyway. Being a witcher isn't a great life, and most witchers at some point lament the fact that they're not normal and are bound to a witcher's life.

(That and monsters are dying out in the book world, so Geralt will eventually have to face a life a retirement anyway.)

All of which is TL;DR to say that you can choose Geralt's attitude to be whatever you want it to be, and it will have some basis in his character behind it. Nobody is bound to have the same attitudes, opinions, or reactions for forever. And the previous two games have built enough backstory to really justify any decision you make.

To be fair, Shani's problems stem from herself as well.

She wants someone to settle down with, but she also wants to continue her path as a medic. She wants a place and a person to come home to, but she also wants to be wherever her duty calls her. Geralt may be a wanderer, but Shani has the same issue.

Same said by others. Shani prefers to be a battlefield medic than to settle down.

Everyone has to live with the consequences of their decisions or changing the things if they are not satisfied and IF it's possible.

Not a reason to pity someone in this situation IMO.

It's the path she chose for herself. Not an easy one, but she chose it willingly, and is invested in it. Sure, she, like virtually every person, can lament not being able to have everything - but that doesn't mean she'd made a different decision if she had a chance.

I don't that much because
in witcher 1, you have the choice to be either with Triss or Shani, and if you choose to be with Triss, Shani would become very cocky (and by cocky, i mean a ♥♥♥♥, she wouldn't even want to speak with you) while Triss would be more friendly and so on, and so on.

I guess what I'm really feeling bad about is the folly of her own character (i'm trying not to say "fate" but perhaps there isn't a better word in this context). I made this post after the wedding segment. After meeting with her one last time and pressuring her to stay a 3rd time, it became clearer that she doesn't think this relationship can grow beyond a "fling between friends". I spent every opporunity in the quest given to try to further the relationship between Geralt and Shani but in the end, shes pretty set on her ways and intends to find another person that fits her lifestyle.

I forgot how the conversations went on in W1 but i definitely remember that Triss is nice regardless and correct me if I'm wrong but Shani acts like you're newly weds and starts nagging if you're going out constantly.
