Rabid Rock Troll spawn test
I am trying to pin down the spawn requirements for an apparently rare rabid rock troll.

On Ard Skellig south of the Crossroads, there is a drowner nest on the beach. Until the nest is destroyed, the beach area is infested by several drowners at all hours of the day or night. After the nest is destroyed, the beach by the nest is clear during the day, or has maybe 1-3 drowners at most. At night, of course, the area is likely to be reinfested but often stays clear for days.

Anyhoo...this is one of those nests that, despite being grayed out after you blow it up, will become semi-active again in a few days, so you can blow it up again, get xp and loot again, and even sometimes get it to pop a mob or two onto your head that "come out of the nest" to fight you.

I'd headed over there to do just that, and to my surprise, I discovered that there was a rabid rock troll (lvl 10) just hanging out, waiting to be divested of a cave troll liver :)

I don't have a convenient save game close to the time I first destroyed the nest, and many days have passed, so I can't really do any proper testing. I can say he definitely dropped the coveted cave troll liver.

I am almost certain he will not spawn at all until after the nest is destroyed at least once, and I think that if you miss him, he will despawn at night to be replaced by drowners (or by nothing - beach was clear several nights I ran/boated by it), and I don't know if he respawns in the day again or if you only get the one shot at him.

If anyone is bored and wants to experiment, further testing is needed.

In any case, it's pretty sweet to have another low level not-friendly troll that one could ostensibly get to pretty early in the game, without having to off any "friendly" trolls.

So many extra non friendly trolls to kill if you just play the game

Agreed, but the vast majority of them are not as low as lvl 10, and I'm just curious about the spawn conditions for this guy because I'd never seen him before. At 530 hours played...I think I've "played the game." :)
