Random instakills
I've noticed a few times lately that a monster that should be a damage sponge will just die in 1 hit for some reason.
First I noticed it with a cockatrice, now with a spriggan.
I've been using griffon gear, the sword was superior when I OHKed the cockatrice, and master when I OHKed the spriggan

My attack power is good, but I can't even one-shot wolves like that, and I don't have any abilities or equipment modifiers that should cause an insta-death. In fact, the crit damage on the sword is only 25%.

Anyone else run into this or know why it might be happening?

I looked at the replay of the spriggan kill (game DVR lets me record the last 30 seconds), and the spriggan took a small amount of damage from the 1 hit, caught fire, then instantly dropped dead with no more damage indicators.

Well is Enemy scaling turned off?

What level are you? Because side quest bosses are mostly really underleveled, only a handfull are worth fighting without enemy upscaling

Low-mid 40s, can't pull it up right now.

you can breeze through B&W before lvl 40 and you just did that quest without upscaling, so everything seems in order

You're telling me that while it takes multiple hits to kill a wolf the same level, it's normal to 1-shot a spriggan?

And if you watch the video, the hit takes a tiny chip out of its health bar, then the rest of its health just vanishes.
