benefits of doing Hearts of Stone before main quests ?
I'm already at Thin Ice. Am I too far into the game to stop and do HOS and have that affect the plot/ending in any way ?

i know i can do it after, but i read you should do it before the main quest.

unless you need special runewright merchant then none I think.

You can do both expansions before main story, if you want. Neither will have any effect on the main quest, except you will be hugely overleveled of course.

People usually suggest main story first, then HoS, then BaW because of the level you earn goes naturally this way. There are no connection between any of the stories.

You get to keep use your reward for longer? I quite liked my new black Roach with his weird eyes. Sorry if a bit spoilerish, but that can be an option. Can't remember the actual perk that came with him. I just liked to look at him.

expansion quest lines turn on automatically when you meet their trigger for hos it's super early still in white orchard.

I must have missed it then, I'll have to go back and look. Do you know exactly where it is?

So... you guys suggest to complete the game and then do HoS and BW?

Go to the Seven Cats Inn to the east of Novigrad and use the notice board. Read the note titled “Contract: Monster in the Sewers”.

There's a typo there, it's Blood & Wine that needs Poet Under Pressure, HOS should be available from the noticeboard at the 7 cats as tonypa said.

and hos notice board should be there as soon as you leave white orchard (because logically you only need one encounter in white orchard for beginning of hos to make sense). if you installed hos only later but youre past that encounter then you get message about hos getting unlocked and notice board on map'll show new message available.

anyway hos was designed to be played after main game even if nothing forces you to do it that way.

Personally I prefer to play HOS before the end of the main game. There's a little bit of extra dialog but nothing affect the main story. B&W definitely comes after.
