I don't understand the point of playing Ciri
I'm trying to get into the role of playing Geralt, trying to be Geralt. Yet the game suddenly made me play as Ciri.

I then had to participate in a horse race but lost because I was dumb and started following the dotted trail instead of the big yellow line. So Ciri lost because of ME but the story depicts her as someone who should have won something like that. So it got me annoyed as to why I'm even playing as Ciri. I'm wrecking the story playing as someone who isn't me. Besides what if I chose to lose the race to suck up to the Baron? Thats not even an option because the quest has it as failed.

Not a fan of playing as Ciri.

just to understand everything she have passed by, and to demo a bit of her power as well.

its important story-telling.

To be fair, they're very short sections and really their purpose is to demonstrate that Ciri is capable and incredibly powerful.

I hate playing as her as well and loathe her sections each playthrough

Don't think about it too much, it's just a handful of scenes to depict what Ciri has been up to while Geralt searches for her. The Witcher 3 is still very much about you playing Geralt's story. If it's detracting too much from your experience with the game, just remember the sections arent long, just get through them and don't think about them again. You can spend as much time as you want playing as Geralt and working on side quests and contracts in the mean time.

Also remember that the throughout all the witcher saga, be it books or games, Ciri is as important as Geralt. Everything kinda revolves around her, so I'm sure the devs just wanted to do that justice.
Do you read a book and hate when you must read about a character you don't like but is very important as well?

Restart the quest maybe and also a tip on racing, if they get close just go in front of their horse, they will slow down and not pass.

the point is to make you excercise your artistic potential by orcing you to quickly switch between the characters your trying to enact my lord XD
I personally loved playing as Ciri. If anything, I wished some of the sequences playing as her lasted longer. Some of them were so short, they were more like interactive cutscenes than anything, it seemed strange to have them.

Yes, first playthrough was a a shock for me as well, when you understand the big picture , we are playing as the witcher but really the story is about the Elder blood , I could go on but don't wish to spoil the story for you. In the original story the books depict Ciri in a greater role as well as Yennefer and the other friends of Geralt also. Just muster through it as well as you can........

This. I don't know how difficult is to get this. Ciri's sections are actually one innovative feature of the game...since games are an interactive medium nothing better for telling a story(in a game) than making a true interactive cutscene in which you assume a role inside a cutscene instead just watching it.

For me one of the greatest features of the game at the level storytelling, which you are crying about...sad IMO.

To me, they were two fold -

* To show the player what has happened to Ciri (obviously, since the point of the main game is Geralt is trying to find her) as he's following up on various leads throughout the game.
* To show the player her abilities

I enjoyed seeing what happened to her, but I wasn't a big fan of actually playing as her, I greatly preferred the combat when playing as Geralt.

Ciri has a really weak deffence as she decides to fight monsters wearing absoultely no armor. Sure she can heal rapidly and dodge like crazy, but no armor?

I suspect that was the developer's way to try to balance the combat when you're playing as her - make it so she struggles to parry and also takes heavy damage when she gets hit (because of no armor), forcing you to use your magic abilities.
