Crash, 100% reproducible, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT problem
tldr; AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT problem are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for now.

I have an annoying crash that makes the game unplayable.

If I go into the menu and cycle through a couple of different tabs and then go back to the game, the game crashes 100% of the time. I still hear the music but the screen is black and I have to reset to my PC.

This is not a 'gpu not good enough' problem. It's a rx 5700 xt. The game runs great, above 80 fps most of the time (And in other heavier games, everything is fine too). Just using menu's crashes the game.

Borderless to fullscreen didn't help.
no v-sync didn't help.
Verify game files integrity didn't help.
Turning steam sync off didn't help.
Solution on this topic from this discussion didn't help: https://steamcommunity.com/app/292030/discussions/0/613958868350350723/

Does anyone know of any kind of solution to this problem?

Update:
So I tried I tried to locate the problem. First I disabled all post-processing options and suddenly I couldn't get the game to crash so I went from there.
I enabled post-processing options one by one to see which options crashed my game. These options could crash the game within a minute if turned one of them on:
  • Anti-Aliasing
  • Bloom
  • Depth of Field
  • Chromatic Aberration
  • Light Shafts

But when I turned all these options off and turned the remaining options on, the game crashed again. So this ♥♥♥♥ doesn't really makes any sense. At this point I'm starting to suspect AMD. I opened AMD Radeon settings, opened the witcher 3 profile and turned all settings either off or set them on use application settings. Now I went back in the game, turned all post-processing options on, and ....
couldn't get the game to crash. So I'm going to play for a while and see if this stabilizes the game.

Update:
Radeon RX 5700 XT owners, like me, are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for the forseeable future. This link goes to the AMD website forum where loads of people report the same problem in the Witcher 3 and other games. This problem has nothing to do with the Witcher 3, it's just AMD having ♥♥♥♥ drivers for their GPU.

Hopefully they will at some point fix it, but right now here's how I play with semi stable conditions.
In AMD Radeon settings turn everything off or to 'use application settings' where possible. For me it was FreeSync and shader cache off, tessellation mode to use application settings.
And in Witcher 3, put fps on 60, v sync off.

did you try contacting the official support? i'm suggesting because if it's reproducible it's easy for them to fix it

hey delete your game and install again, or delete the appcache in the steam file

Bought it this evening, having the exact same issue with no fix available. Whats annoying me is my brother played it on a less powerful rig I never saw this crash.
