I tried using console commands but nothing allows you to actually *equip* the sword without changing your player character LEVEL. And then there's no way to change your level BACK once it's over... So you could advance a bunch of levels, with no skill points to show for it... and then there's all those quests that you're too high a level to get any experience for completing them! Super frustrating situation.
I found that the level of the wooden sword changed several times from just reloading the game. Each time was fairly disappointing as even though the level would sometimes go down for the requirement, it never came close to the 40s. I should also add that this could be a bug created from the Enhanced Edition Mod that has a history of breaking games. Typically, I found it was around level 70, but I finally actually happened to come across it again as a level 65. At this point, I had leveled to 50 by literally grinding the game for about twenty hours. It was really frustrating, and I just wanted to finally play the game again, enabled the dev console and gave myself level 65 within the save where I had last seen the wooden sword as a level 65. I feel strongly that this is the fault of the Enhanced Edition Mod as I had no other issues prior, and there are little to no articles mentioning this issue on the internet (trust me, I looked long and hard for anything). Now, had I kept the mod installed and active, this wouldn't have been an issue, but reverting to vanilla out of the mod causes severe issues like duplicate items of ridiculous levels in inventory, bugged boss fights making them almost impossible on Death March, etc.
