Can't Get Mods to Work
So now that I've succinctly beaten the game I think 3 times, I thought I'd play around with some mods. I installed Nexus Mod Manager and downloaded some of the most popular ones listed by placed like PC Gamer.

They didn't cause any problems with the game, but they're also not showing up. For example, I installed one that allowed Geralt to wear his cloak like the game's opening video. Another was being able to jump in shallow water. But the cloak isn't showing up and I'm still getting the "You cannot do this here" message when I test the shallow jumping mod.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I looked into installing them manually, but I think that just entails putting the files into a "Mods" folder in the main Witcher 3 folder. And that didn't seem to do the trick, either.

Try installing the Unification Pack first, it fixes some compatibilities issues and make the Steam and GOG versions compatible with almost every mod.
Also have in mind that some mods require to "change" the same archive, so I recommend you to use a tool that merge mods, it is located on the Nexus.

Thanks, I'll try those. Fingers crossed. I'll post again whether it worked or not.

So I tried installing the Unification Patch and the Modkit. Still no go.

I was having trouble installing mods with nexus mods as well, I wouldn't recommend using it for witcher 3 mods. I recommend to first install the unification patch, and then use the witcher 3 mod manager instead: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2678/

Installing with it is usually one click and saves you the trouble of having to change values in ini files and things of that sort.

If you're planning to install more than 1 mod, then you have to use a script merger, simply download the script merger in nexus mods and then use script merge from the witcher 3 mod manager.

Also I recommend going with a clean install (with a fresh set of ini files, you could prompt steam to download them by going on offline mode and starting the game after deleting them from your folder in documents), nexusmods messed up some things for me and i couldn't get the mods working regardless of what i used but after going with a clean install i got it to work with the witcher 3 mod manager.

Hope that helps.

It does, but to be honest, it sounds like way more hassle than I wanted. I thought it'd be as simple as modding Skyrim or Fallout.
It is, maybe simplier even. I used NMM, installed 20 mods, never had a problem.
Something else is wrong, not NMM.

Entirely dependant on the mod, things like FriendlyHUD don't work well with Nexusmods and need a couple of extra steps to work, with the witcher 3 mod manager it takes care of all of that

It feels like that at first but once you get a feel for the process you realize that it's pretty simple. If there's anything you need lemme know.

For the record, these are the mods I tried:

-Geralt Cloak (https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2659/)
-FCR3 - Immersion and Gameplay Tweaks (https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2788/)
-Jump in Shallow Waters (https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/659)

EDIT: Dammit, the NexusMods links were deleted. Sorry.
