This is the game Olgierd plays. He is counting on Geralt's failure. Remember Olgierd is a character from inside the game, he does not think in: "Geralt is the protagonist, protagonist aura, he can do anything he wants and will succeed"
It doesn't matter if geralt suceeds. If being freed from the contract was one of his wishes then there are two possible outcomes.
1: The wish is never fulfilled and he keeps his soul.
2: The wish is fulfilled and he is freed from the contract (and keeps his soul.)
If Olgeird wishes to be freed of his debts to O'Dimm he could make this wish, and he gets to keep his soul either way.
On another hand no one forbids O'Dimm to invoke the small letter of the contract and forbid that whish. You/Geralt don't know all the terms of the contract between Olgierd and O'Dimm, so you have to give it the benefit of doubt, this one is another theorizing.
I suppose there could be some line of the contract that precludes this as a possibility, but I doubt it given O'Dimm says he [Olgierd] can ask "anything of us, but we won't know untuil we ask him"
And O'Dimm never lies or cheats
Am I misreading your post, or...?
As I understand the game:
Wishes fullfilled and therefore contract fullfilled: O'Dimm claims Olgierd's soul.
Wishes unfullfilled and therefore contract unfullfilled: Olgierd keeps his soul.
Contract broken by tricking O'Dimm: Olgierd keeps his soul and O'Dimm is banished.
Yes, Olgierd could ask Geralt for help in tricking O'Dimm to break the contract, but how would he know to? He only hires Geralt to kill the Frog Prince.
Now we are talking theoreticals: Olgierd might have been using the contract on the Frog Prince to suss out potential helpers in breaking his contract with O'Dimm.
Geralt never get to that point, he gets captured by the Ofieri, and O'Dimm.. eh.. helps him escape the ship, and thereby snares Geralt into HIS service before Olgierd has had the chance to ask the same.
As for O'Dimm never lying or cheating? Replay the story, Greg, and pay attention...
