BaW: Escaped Katakan during La Cage Au Fou
Playing the Blood and Wine DLC for the first time, towards the end of the quest "La Cage au Fou" there is a battle during which you are attacked by waves of necrophages, a fledgling vampire, and a Katakan near the end. After I defeated all the necrophages, the fight cut short with a cutscene of the Katakan fleeing the bloodbath, which Geralt does not pursue.

Was I supposed to be able to kill this Katakan, and was there any special significance to it getting away?

No. Mission accomplished as soon as Regis' bloodlust is high enough.

Ahh, okay. I was wondering whether I might find a number of townsfolk murdered by it later down the line. The game loves throwing consequences on seemingly small events. Thanks for the answer.

I killed Katakan while playing W3EE, but I shouldn't - cause game tells "You're dead" (even if I have full HP), instead of cutscene where Katakan is running
