The pentinent in "The Phantom of Edelberg"
I'm having a very hard time defeating it/them.
So far I have been beating quite a few wraiths in this quest. I only used Necrophage oil on the weakest silver sword in the game. No signs at all, no bombs. And it was all quite easy.
At this particular point I'm using everything (except that I'm wearing my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gear) and still I get killed pretty quickly.
Thanks in advance.

How does this battle go exactly. I killed like a dozen of them, and then he loses less than 10% HP. Then I hit him quite a few times, and with every hit appears a number (~140), and after all theses hits he loses another tiny little chunk of HP, and another pack of wraiths appears. never had a fight nearly as excruciating so far. I don't think I can make it.

Wraiths tend to fight the same way all the time. The main wraith is a ghost and cannot be hit without materializing him somehow. That's where Yrden comes in. Magic Trap (upgraded version of Yrden) also deals damage all its own to any target near it.

Periodically, the main wraith will summon level 1 wraiths to help heal it which they do by damaging or stealing your health and giving it to the main wraith so it's wise not to let them touch you and to kill them off as quickly as possible. Then rinse and repeat.

The Moon Dust bombs prevent it from transforming. In the Penitent's case, this means it prevents it from becoming a specter again quickly, giving you time to deliver a few strikes for damage. The base version lasts for 20 seconds while the Enhanced lasts 40 seconds. The Superior prevents it permanently.

The base version of Specter Oil increases your Attack power by 10%, Enhanced, 25% and Superior, 50%.

The reason why he's so tough to beat is that he's a boss level monster. The other wraiths you've faced in the game prior to him were of the ordinary variety and as is true for most wraiths. This one's got a lot more health and can endure far more than ordinary monsters of his kind. This one calls up a lot of minor wraiths to heal it so you need to deal with those as soon as they appear so you can somewhat shorten the fight. Otherwise it'll just drag on and on.

Just take it slow and be persistent about those minor wraiths when they appear. Use your bombs, use Igni too when it's materialized and within distance. Dodge and roll away from direct attacks, as you should in any fight with any enemy. The key is to try and take as little damage as possible while looking for opening to deal a few good strikes of your own.

Throw down Yrden, toss a bomb and come out swinging. When he's hurt enough, the other wraiths will appear. Cast Quen to shield yourself a bit while you deal with them as quickly as possible. Then go back to fighting the boss with Yrden and bombs.

You'll get there. Good luck.

Huge thanks for all help.
I enhanced the oil and the moon dust bombs. Now I get to a point when the light is on in the light house. Still, the pack of wraiths surrounds me and kill me within seconds. But things look better now.
