Is a pacifist playthrough even remotely possible?
Is there anything I can do in this game that doesn't require me to kill lots of people?

yes, go pick herbs and flowers thats one thing you can do in this game that doesn't require you to kill lots of people. :steamfacepalm: or just kill monsters, but you can't progress through the main story without killing folk like the get junior quest etc but then im guessing you already know that.

Other than just going around talking to non important npcs and skipping any and all quest that involves killing humanoids.. Whcih is a significant number of quest including but not limited to a large portion of the main quest and sidequest. . No you cant do a pacifist playthrough.

This isnt the type of game where you can do that sort of thing really. Your playing Geralt. While you can role play him to an extent. Its not a 100 percent you can play him however you want.

Geralt and other characters were designs and written based upon the witcher books and short stories. And a pacifist isnt a word you would use to describe Geralt in any way shape or form.

Yes he isnt a blood killing massacist serial killer. But he also isnt someone that refuses to kill.

If that is to much of an issue then my best advice would be to find a different game for you to play that does offer ways to play the game withought killing anyone.

Or just nixing the pacifist playthrough idea all together for this game.

You can can talk yourself out of several situations particularly if you upgrade Axii, and you can avoid some places on the map that would lead to fights (missing out on exploring). But you can't do that most of the time so a completely pacifist playthrough is not possible.

Thanks for the replies. I like to play these games in a variety of ways. A killer playthough where I murder everything I see, and a pacificst playthrough. I enjoyed doing both in Skyrim.

You can do both playstyles in the Metal Gear and Deus Ex series.

You know nothing boy. You build your own house, chat with people in cities, marry wenches, trade with merchants...and deny me that your aren't playing Skyrim pacifist run. A run of Skyrim has nothing to do with Alduin, a Skyrim run is an exercise of freedom, it starts and finishes when you decide it must.

Then Dishonored is definitely more your style. You can play stealth throughout and kill no one (other than what is absolutely necessary to pass the mission) or kill every living soul in sight. But it will affect the rest of your playthrough, especially Dishonored 2, where changes are more often and you will notice the game world reflecting your high or low chaos (murderous or stealth way of dealing with things).

Actually both Dishonored games(1 and 2) have an achievement to finish the game without killing a single soul, so the absolute neccesary to pass a mission is 0.

Tacoma and Gone Home are pansy-friendly.

There's absolutely no sane reason to even attempt The Witcher or even an Elder Scrolls title as a pansy. They are structured around mortal conflict that cannot be resolved solely by talking about your feelings with each other or running away, though I do believe there's a mod for Skyrim where you can avoid being killed if you let people and animals rape you.

Nope although you an use signs to confuse enemies and avoid fights every now and then.

The Dragonborn (remember that moniker you're given at the start of the game?) means you are the one meant to kill those dragons.

Actually no one calls you Dragonborn until you absorb your first soul. You can avoid that part entirely.

A pansy character is easy to play in Skyrim: when you flee Helgen (if you can actually get through without killing anyone or anything, like those spiders in the caves after the bridge collapses), once you're outside, simply walk away from the quest. Don't go talk to Gerdur/Blacksmith in Riverwood, and don't take any quests. Just go pick berries and chop wood and cook stuff and make potions and sell them and loot corpses you find.

However, it's an idiotic way to play because the game is not set up for the Player to be an "average Skyrimmian".

It kinda requires a specific mindset. I consider my first playthrough to be the "pacifist one" where I tried to keep people alive in the questlines if they deserved it by the Witcher's code (arguable, but you get my point). The best way to summarize the mindset is exactly how Geralt explained it to the godling+doppler+werewolf+rock troll company in Skellige.
He is to keep the balance between the monster world and the human world, but sometimes overlaps happen. In those cases, the Witcher has to evaluate the individual and not their race or species.
Sometimes monsters wear human faces after all.
