Did Witcher Just Force Religion on Me?
I was playing "Defender of Faith" and after I learned it was some people who think (know) that religion is just something to control the masses, so they were taking a stand. My options were "not get involved" or fight them. At first I chose not get involved, becuase, I know the other would result in me having to kill them just because they dont believe in religion.
After choosing this, it says I failed the mission!

So I redid it and as I thought, had to kill them, and "then I win." So I only win if I defend religion?

Yes because you agreed to fix the statues. If you don't fix them, you fail. It has nothing to do with you "defending religion". If you don't want to do that, don't agree to help her. The Witcher, especially in the books, is very specifically not religious.

Jesus Christ Almighty!

It's just a game pilgrim.

Amen.

You understood nothing sir.

If you get involved, yes Geralt kills them(in a fistfight), but Geralt doesn't kill them because he defends religion...he kills them because he can't stand them pissing off and destroying the work of the people that believes in religion

Take your self-righteous narcissism elsewhere, none of us are interested.

Do you mean me? I am right. I'm not nacissistic, would hate to be like Obama.

Have you been appointed spokesperson for everyone in a vote?

:)

He could have been referring to the OP. At least I hope that's the case.

He could have been. I hope so too.

There is another quest where this priest of the eternal fire has you burn corpses. As you go about this task you encounter a bandit who reveals it's more or less a cover for fisstech. After you confront the very same priest about it, he tries to (with the aid of two armed goons) kill you.

So no the Witcher 3 is certainly not forcing religion on you. In fact it kind of highlights some of the fanaticism that can stem from certain religions.

In other situations a character may offer to bribe you with money to keep you quiet and one of the options is "You can hire me, but you sure as hell can't buy me."

Grand. You forgot to write in all caps, though.

You do know that failing a quest doesn't mean you are forced into anything. You do not have to do any quests at all, just because a quest exist doesn't mean you are forced to do it. If you are not interested in any religion in real life and a church wants you to lead a sunday school meeting. That is a quest for you, but you might not want to do it and thereby failing the quest.

I think I remember this quest, the vandalists were scholars from Novigrad who thought they had the right to molest local religious statues, simply because they were more developed and intelligent than the locals.

I'm from the Netherlands and some months ago some Dutch guy on vacation got arrested and jailed for carrying a bottle of alcohol into a sacred place. He tried it once, security noticed it and brought him back to the entrance and told him to leave. That was warning #1.
The dumbass tried again, hiding the bottle, not respecting the local religion, they found out, he got arrested and thrown into jail. Well deserved.

Respect others religion, especially when you are on their sacred ground. Don't force your religion to someone else, don't hate someone because their religion isn't yours. And especially don't disrespect 'heathen' sacred places by violating rules/vandalism because it's not your thing.

In the Witcher world setting, where killing is nothing new, killing those dumbass scholars for molesting religious statues is fine for a game. They could've run, but they're stubborn, they thought the pen of 'rational thinking' is mightier than the sword ----> chop-chop. Mission completed!

And btw the Velen swamps do have the Witches to worship, in fear but it's religious.

Thank you for a real, coherant response and not resort to instant bashing, thank you!
