Did the duchess (Anna Henrietta) win the Darwin Award of the century? (spoiler)
If you’ve not played the DLC (Blood & Wine) then don’t read this yet.

I fully applaud that both DLCs did NOT have another idiotic Judas betrayal story which is predictable as the rising sun & boring as a sack of cement. Most games do (snore).:steambored: Well done for the story writers!

Obviously there must be some tasks for the super-hero (game player) to do - so sometimes DUMB things need to be done. For example, if naughty sis wanted to take out her rival sister, then her ONE and ONLY target would be sis -- not draw attention to killing 4 knights & putting the palace & guards on alert & hiring a witcher. Sheesh!

In my decades of study – I’m in great company when I say that INTELLIGENCE is entirely separate from WISDOM. In the beginning of this DLC I said to myself “wow, this is beauty & brains”.

So let me get this straight: After all the investigation is over with and the duchess finally learns her jealous sister (absent for about a decade) is behind it:

4 knights are murdered
Her town is attacked, burned and hundreds dead.
Geralt tells her she is the 5th victim.

So she walks towards her sister with open arms to give her a big HUG.

Sawdust for brains?

I’ve read that an alternate ending is triggered in the main quest “Beyond Hill and Dale” where you must ignore the girl with flints; thus Syanna won't get the protective ribbon. Is that all there is to it?

Did I miss it?

Your thoughts.

"I’ve read that an alternate ending is triggered in the main quest “Beyond Hill and Dale” where you must ignore the girl with flints; thus Syanna won't get the protective ribbon. Is that all there is to it?"

Who knows, I won't tell anything cause it's a spoiler for other endings. Play for yourself.
I'm sure you already understand why Syanna wanted Dettlaff to kill 4 other knights, and the last victim is her little sister so that'll make it 5, that also matches with 5 virtues in Toussaint, which are told to be the standards of Toussaint knights but something they did to Syanna on the day she got kicked out that makes her want to revenge them and also the ultimate one, her own sister to notice people that those 5 virtues are rotten.

Geralt is hired to investigate the beast of Beauclair, the man that 'directly' murdered her knights and ordered to kill that beast for her. That's all she cares about, she has no clue or any confirmed evidence (even if Geralt said so, she doesn't have witcher sense or see what Geralt sees) that Syanna was the beast's lover as well as she's behind the 'kidnap a vampire' plan.

And yes Anna is an extremely emotional person, so any Geralt logic won't change her at all. About the HUG, don't expect that you tell her: "Ok your sister gonna assassinate you" and she gonna punish and put Syanna into jail after years she got to see her long lost sister again. How the hell would she believe that, as if there's someone outside of your family tell you that your long lost brother/sister (if you have any) is gonna murder you, would you believe them too?

Well, for one jealousy was not the motive behind Syannas plan. She did not do what she did because she was jealous of her sister. She did it all because she felt like her sister betrayed her. And her sister wasnt her only target as she wasnt the only one Syanna felt wronged her. The knights that were killed also wronged Syanna.

The full story of Syanna is she was born the wrong day. She was born on the solar eclipse. Which is considered bad and those born during solar eclipse is said to have the curse of the black sun. Because of this Syanna was always looked at as the black sheep. When she did something wrong people didnt look at it as just a ordinary child getting in trouble. They looked at it as she is pure evil because she was born on the wrong day. Born during the solar eclipse. She is a cursed child.

So one day Syanna and her sister did something(forget exactly what) But i do remember it stated it was Syannas sister that started it. They got in trouble. Only this time was the last time. Everyone wanted her gone. So the knights that were killed during the blood and wine expansion were actually the ones that were ordered to get rid of Syanna. I think if i remember correctly they were suppose to kill her. I think she escaped if i remember correctly. At any rate they didnt do just what they were ordered to do. They abused her as they were doing it. Beating her and though it doesnt outright say so it is hinted that they may have even raped her. But again it doesnt outright say that.

That is why the knights that were killed were targeted. Because they abused Syanna betrayed her. Thats why its in her plan. And why she just doesnt go for Syanna.

Now This is why Syanna feels like her sister betrays her and why Syanna wanted to kill her. Because when they got in trouble. The trouble Syannas sister actually started. They both were culprits. They both did it. But her sister instigated it. Syannas sister did nothing to try to stop her being exiled did nothing to her defense. Said nothing in her defense.

Now as far as after learning who it was that is behind everything. That it was her sister and even though she knows she is one of the people syanna wanted to kill and going in for a hug.

Was that a stupid decision. Well its not the smartest thing one could have done lol

But as cursed panther stated. Emotions can overide logic.

Dude she slept with Dandelion :D what do you think?

but i think what you're forgetting is that the last time they saw each other they were just little kids, that's all she remembers from Syanna i don't think she believes her sister might be capable of doing such a thing.

you can also get another ending depending on your dialogue choices with Syanna before the ceremony, there are three ending as far as i know.

Thanks all for your thoughts. Interesting.

Most of you explained - supporting Syanna's position and points are well taken.

My reason for posting the thread is Anna's response - fully knowing Syanna was responsible for burning down half the town & killing so many people. Did she suddenly forget? Most leaders would have ordered Syanna drawn & quartered with body parts hung on meat hooks for all to see.

This parallels the real world where some folks think by putting flowers in their hair & holding up "peace" signs that BAD things & BAD people will mysteriously disappear (as in "if I'm NICE to you then you'll be NICE to me" crap).

Years back when I was naive & "believing the best in people" (not yesterday) I did that -- and now I have FOUR (4) daggers stuck in my back.

Anna's assessment of the vampire’s character (before she knew he was a vampire) was exactly on target. Now with part of her town in ashes – she is totally oblivious with the culprit standing right in front of her?
