PC antialiasing vs Xbox One / PS4 antialiasing
I've heard the console versions have a form of temporal antialiasing which apparently, the PC version doesn't use. Has anyone compared the PC, Xbox and PS4 versions?

I have an Xbox One and PC and I wondered which platform I should buy the game on (i.e. which has the smoothest image quality). Has anyone noticed a difference between console and PC versions?

I'm not sure which to go for as the console versions run at around 30 FPS, which seems a bit low.

There's an example of how the PS4 vs PC versions look (Ps4 on the right side) here:

The PS4 screenshot looks a lot smoother to my eye, but less detailed...

PC. Better resolution, better image quality, better framerates, mods, etc.

I don’t think so. According to both DF and Nvidia, all versions use the same anti-aliasing. You get the same shimmering on long edges on both the PS4 and Xbox along with the pc (it appears the temporal component of the AA is very very weak if not non-existent). The console versions just seem to have a more aggressive anti-aliasing post processing applied which seems to blur the edges as well as the details. If you want the same result, you can use reshade FXAA. As for which version to go for, the pc is simply better because of greater foliage distance and mod support. Mods although not as extensive as for say Skyrim, are a must have for the game, especially graphic mods.

Well, I've played it on a PC before and noticed jagged edges, particularly during movement. Maybe I'll just upgrade my Radeon r9 390 in a few months so I can play at 4k, which does seem to help a lot.

I did notice that SMAA applied several times clears up some of the aliasing quite well, without loosing much detail. But I still suspect temporal antialiasing wasn't implemented at all on the PC version, based on this "Török revealed that the PlayStation 4 & Xbox One versions of The Witcher 3 will be using a “proprietary”temporal antialiasing technology, which will be discussed at a later date"

Good video example of the difference between original Xbox One and PC versions here:

The detail is quite a bit lower on Xbox One during gameplay, but the image is very smooth.
