Combat is terrible?
So I'm just getting into the witcher 3 and I'm loving the visual storytelling the sidequests, gwent, everything... except the combat, the combat is so awkward and I'm going to go over why and hope someone can help me find a mod to fix this issue or something along those lines

The first issue I have is how geralt seems to float around, I was playing through the quest where you have to stay close to this sorceress to seal some portals but while I was fighting off these dogs I kept flying wildly out of the circle geralt jumps around and swings in horrifically inefficient ways and it just doesnt feel like a highly trained witcher to me it seems like someone gave a ballerina a sword.

The second issue I have is the terrible lock on system, almost everyone I've seen play this game seems to agree on this one but I wont go too in depth suffice to say its awkward and clings onto monsters when it shouldn't

The third and biggest issue is that no one seems to have any weight in this game, a griffon reacts exactly the same to getting hit as a wolf, theres no kickback and when there is it's either completely disproportionately strong or just downright pathetic

I'm almost tempted to try to port darksouls combat into the witcher I feel like that could be such a cool combination but it wouldn't be a very smooth transition if I port it myself 😅

The witcher 3, while I love it to death, was not known for it's phenomenal fighting mechanics. I think that's the absolute best way you can describe it, as floaty, but I don't really think that's why people were sold on the game. To be fair, when the witcher does so well in other aspects of the game (storytelling, atmosphere, roleplay), there usually is something that doesn't quite live up to the rest. Combat is most certainly not the most polished, though I wouldn't call it terrible. It definitely isn't the best combat mechanics I've seen.

I wouldn't say its the best or worst, but really is more what you make of it. If you just want to button mash and swing and roll, you can and it will seem lame. You can also try to dodge, parry, use signs and bombs etc and it seems more interesting. I try to do the latter myself...

W3 has no meaningful parry, WTF you are talking about?

For a game that does parry right, look at Metal Gear Revengeance, which makes you feel much more of a badass with a sword.

Witcher games have all had some of the worst gameplay i've ever come across lol. I've hated all of them and can't finish any, but I loved the books and the story is the main thing that makes me always give them a chance. Yea look for mods man, base combat has never been good imo.

Combat is terrible? YES! :) You spin around like imbecile and attack everything. The air, the walls , the chairs, and once and a while you might hit an enemy. It's really a good thing you don't have any followers or they would be CUT to SHREDS! LOL! Oh, yeah, then you get seriously injured and jump back to chug 20 bottles of wine to recover 5 hp.

On a serious note. It still would be very nice to be able to face your enemy. The tracking is pitiful.

aye the combat can feel clunky and off at times, the tracking is ♥♥♥♥♥ as stated by others before, but when you upgrade not only your gameplay through experience, but Geralts abilities you will shred through garbage like you were a machine designed for it

The combat is terrible if you play with keyboard and mouse. With a gamepad it's great.

Quite the opposite in fact. Great with a keyboard, terrible with a controller.

Quite just your opinion in fact. Best for me with a controller and not M/KB

The combat is alright with a controller, worse with a mouse and keyboard, but nothing particularly special either way. I think the problem with The Wither 3's combat is that it doesn't really get any more complex over the course of the game. You start with pretty much all your moves, and you don't really gain anything new for combat beyond abilities that let you do more damage, use moves quicker, or just stay in combat longer. Nothing about The Witcher 3's combat changes very much over the whole 100 hour long game.
