When it comes to combat its barely passable if you ask me, when it comes to other gameplay elements like gwent its a personal taste issue with many not liking it at all and others loving it.
Basically I tried playing witcher 1 many years ago and couldn't get past the first hour because I hated how it controlled. I never got to assess his character or the story because I just hated trying to make him move around and do things.
I skipped the 2nd game because of my experience with the first but with the 3rd came a lot of praise for it so when I saw it on sale for a similar price to the one you are saying I said meh why not, at the worst its another game I will regret buying but 15 aint much to lose.
You are sounding like your issue is the reverse where you know the story and character and are asking if the gameplay is worth it, well I have 500 hours into the game, on my third playthrough and I have a fair number of issues with the story which is so lauded.
That is the best answer I can give you, personally it was worth my 15, but in your situation I can imagine becoming more and more annoyed every time story comes up.
The question no one can answer for you is if you will get on with the gameplay and if you can overlook geralt for that gameplay.
dude you could have at least tried a reasonable troll, 100 or so might have convinced someone you were being genuine.
I'm not sure what you expect to get from Witcher 3 that leads you to hope you will maybe enjoy it despite you hating the main character.
But I don't think you will find those things in the game, or at least not enough of them, to cause you to enjoy it.
Who knows, maybe Geralt will grow on you.
15$ for the goty version of TW3 is borderline piracy. In the age of trivial bling bling garbage DLC and unfinished full price titles i say yes, this game is 20x worth it's asking price.
