Crash issues with Radeon RX 5700 XT
Just wondering whether anyone has had crash issues with this game while using a 5700 XT. My rig is more than able to handle the game on Ultra, but I've had infrequent crashes to desktop while playing - the sound keeps going and if I move my controller I can hear the game responding, but there's no display. A few seconds later it crashes completely and I'm left on the desktop.

The funny thing is it happened consistently while I was trying to get the hidden treasure off the island southwest of Fyke Isle. A second or two after I'd go underwater (in the area with all the underwater ruins and the drowners), my gpu fan would spin up like crazy and it'd crash. I tried re-loading, verifying the game files through Steam, approaching the area from different ways, DDUing and re-installing a few different driver versions, all to no avail. I was able to make it through by putting all my graphics settings on low, and then just putting them back up afterward, so it's not a huge deal. Just wondering if anyone else has run across this.

In case anyone else finds this and is unaware, Adrenalin 20.2.2 solves these problems with The Witcher 3.

Hey, excatly the same issue, excatly the same place, and I'm on 5700 XT as well. Wanted to just say thanks, as this fixed my issue :)

I had the same problem at the same spot in the game.
I solved the problem by setting the graphics shadow quality to "medium". All other settings remained on "ultra".

I tried like 10 ways to fix this problem. Funny thing is your solution worked for me... Thanks man. I was searching like 2 hours to fix this. Btw I am using Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT.
I've got a RX 5700 and I encountered the same crash there, thanks for giving a solution, havent tried it yet but at least I know now its not my rig, lol!
If that workaround works then great, if not, no biggie, at least its clear now its a card specific bug of some sort

Thanks mate, this worked for me
5700XT user here.

This issue has been going on for a while now. Here is the thread on AMD's forum: https://community.amd.com/thread/243837

Not a single driver version has fixed the issue for me. This crash also happens around the Devil's pit.

This crash doesn't only happen in the Witcher 3, but these two locations in the Witcher 3 always, without fail, crash for me.

The only workaround i've found is to do these two locations with with the graphics turned to low.

Don't forget to report this is issue to AMD. Maybe one day they will do something about it. You can report this issue through Radeon software. Go to settings > report issue online.

Hey fellas. Download Driver 20.2.2.
Fixed a lot of problems for Navi card and RX 500 cards. I have RX 560X and I play this game on mix setting (mostly medium high with ultra texture/ssao) and 45+FPS average.
Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700XT / Ryzen9 3600x
I solved this problem by setting the 30FPS max framerate, all other settings still "ultra"

you should be able to play with the fps uncapped because I do. Just make sure you have the latest graphics/chipset drivers and latest bios for your motherboard.
UPDATE
TO
DRIVER
20.2.2
READ THE SOLUTION ABOVE.
I updated drivers for chipset and enjoing. Thanks!

Only 20.2.2 not solves problem.

I had the same problem with the card for several games. What fixed it for me was not changing the settings for the witcher. Instead I changed the globale graphics in the radeon software settings to "standard" and deactivated some other setting I do not currently remember. Then playing on "ultra" works just fine.
I've been using the 19.7.5 drivers for months because anything newer was giving me bsod's (in addition to the gaming issues). It sounds like maybe AMD has figured things out with 20.2.2? I'm afraid to try.....

AMD 20.2.2 was the best driver I ever download since Adrenaline 2020. They fixed lot of instability for RX5000 series and even some problem with RX500 series too. You should update.
