Keeping that warrior leather jacket or not?

The level 1 warrior leather jacket you could craft in the early game from the starting torso armor, is there any point in keeping it. Will there come more recipes to improve it further?

Only asking because in my first attempt to play it i sold that starting armor before i found out i could craft it to something better in the first area and started over. Now i keep carrying that leather jacket with me afraid... i get a recipe to use it "again" as material for an even better one.
