Gwent is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying
I really tryed hard to learn this card game, but the game is just like "go ♥♥♥♥ yourself". Every time it looks good and i played out my cards as good as i could, they pull out sone ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ medics or spys out of their ass and beat me so i dont have a chance to get new cards to counter them. And if they got a rare card, they draw it in every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Why is there no card trader where you can buy some more cards then the 2 or 3 from the barkeepers ?

Don't use (waste) your better cards on the first round, if possible (or see the enemy have spies or some cards with great attack - group). I find the Northern Realms Gwent deck easier than others and balanced. By defeating (or buying from merchants) low level players, you'll find good cards.
Good luck.

I hated it at first too, but after buying some cards from the merchants at the beginning of the game and playing a few people, gwent becomes pretty fun.

Need to be patient for gwent. First, playing Nilfgaard or Northern Realms, in both them core game is about spies, decoys and medics. Both decks best strategy is outcarding your foe by playing spies, bringing them back from discard pile with medics or using decoys to either reuse spies or medics.
Monsters and elves rely on cards that summon cards with the same name from the deck to the battlefield.

All other strategies are the same for all decks.

Also, Northern Realms is the 1st deck for which you'll get new cards, will be the 1st deck you'll complete too. So you'll have to play Northern Realms for at least half of the game until you have cards good enough to build another deck of another faction.

Also, it can be a good strategy to just go ahead and lose an early round to save your cards for the end. I'll often toss a junk card out there the first round and see if I can get the NPC to waste some good cards. Or if I have spy cards, I use them then, since it gives the opponent points. Often the NPC will then just skip the second round, letting you win with one card. Then you can go all in on the 3rd round and win.

Yea, I hated it at first too. Make sure you find a video and go and buy all the cards you can from merchants/innkeeps they will help you.

Every one else in here has really good tips too.

Don't try to win the first round all the time. That's usually when the AI will play a good amount of their cards.

If I have a spy card in my hand I will always use it, gain 2 extra cards from it, then if I have a junk card I will throw it out there to draw any other good cards the AI may have. And then I will lose the round on purpose.

Second round, obviously you NEED to win. A lot of the time the AI will lose this round to you on purpose too.

Decoy cards are really helpful too. If the AI uses a spy card on you, you can use the decoy to grab that spy card and subsequently use it to gain yourself 2 extra cards.

If the other player is using the Monster Deck, make sure you have as many Biting Frost cards in your deck.

i think everybody hated it at first. once you learn the strtegy, its pretty fun. use your crap cards first and dont be hell bent on upping your score at first. lure your enemy into dealing their cards. dont be afraid to lose the first round as long as you enemy keeps dealing out those cards.

dont bloat your deck out. keep only 1 of each of the weather effects and dont forget to use your leader if you can. i love the decoys and always put as many as i can into my deck, i think i have 3 so far. obviously spies and medics are key and will make life much easier. if you use spies and you are able to use a weather effect to nullify their attack on you, do it.

i wish i could remember the video i watched on youtube but it was invaluable.
ill look through my history and see if i can find it

The worst thing is, if i manage to win a game, i get a card i already have. Got 4 of every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weather card and cant trade them for other cards
whoeverxwins Nov 10, 2017 @ 4:08pm
Don't put all those weather cards in your deck. I rarely even play the weather cards; I put multiple scorch cards in my deck instead. Then I play my low cards and wait for the npc to play high ones and burn them.

I dont have a single decoy card and not a single scorch card.

Gwent is the only thing i dislike of this game. Idk why they added that trash.

The opponents with cards that destroys an entire row can be quite annoying. Gwen is not my hobby in the game for sure.

Sometimes you meet an opponent with a much better deck than you currently have (especially if you have the expansions installed already). So you go get better cards and come back later. No big deal.

I didn't like Gwent at first either. In the beginning it seemed boring, then I was encountering NPCs with much better decks and (seemingly) amazing luck that beat the pants off me, and that just made it frustrating. But once I learned some strategy and got better cards, it became one of my favorite parts of W3. Once I perfected my deck, no enemy could stand against me. :)

You can't go back everywhere, because some of those players are only available during the quests.

The only one I can remember with a much better deck that you meet early on is the nobleman at Emhyr's court, and you can go back to him quite late in the game. All the other tough ones can be visited whenever, and the ones that are part of quests (like Gwent tournaments) can be visited whenever you decide to take the quest.
