Could Skellige actually win versus Nilfgaard?

SPOILER ALERT: At the end of the game if you choose Hjalmar over Cerys, the game will say that he raids Nilfgaardian villages etc. etc.
So why dont Nilfgaard react and just shut them down?
And also, at the end, there was Emhyr with his boats conquering Skellige.
Where is it? What happened? Do you guys think that Skellige would actually win?

I don't know? Maybe there are some good resources in such nature.
But we all know that Emhyr likes to control everything etc. He is conquering type of person.
But at the end, there were big ships with lots of soldiers in there, and I still wonder what the ♥♥♥♥ happened.

It really depends on which ending you get in the game and who's the new ruler of Skellige. If Radovid or Dijkstra are alive at the end, Emhyr is dead and Nilfgaard is defeated.

If either Cerys or Hjalmar is the new ruler, they might have a tough time fighting the Black Ones because neither will be able to unite all of the clans to fight together. However if Svanrige is king, he will unite them all and kick Nilfgaard's butt all the way back to the south.

I actually think that Cerys is the one who can unite all the clans .

Frankly speaking no, from a logical perspective. Nilfgaard could decimate Skellige and have tea at Kaer Trolde by next morning if they really wanted to.

Only reason Nilfgaard doesn't react is because they are pre-occupied with the Northern Kingdoms and would rather concentrate their resources somewhere more useful.

That's the bit which is open to interpretation I believe. Maybe he was was drawn by the possibility of Ciri being in Skellige after Geralt notifies him, maybe he was keeping a tighter grip on the islands after the election of the new king/queen. Lots of possibilities. I tend to go with the former idea.

He could also check out how the islands looks like, so they would know things when attacking their islands.

Not according to the game's epilogue. I'm just going off that. It said that Svanrige succeeded in uniting all of the clans.

Why did Emhyr went with his ships into Skellige then?

The plan was to invade and conquer all of the northern territories and the Skellige Isles are considered a minor kingdom. They had already begun attacking the isles. That ambassador Geralt spoke with in Vizima when he first went to speak to Emhyr said as much.

If Svanrige becomes king, it's part of a deal his mother brokered. If they backed him taking the throne, he'd be open to an alliance with Nilfgaard. Only Svanrige had bigger balls than his mom. The moment he took the throne, he killed the envoy sent to seal the deal and pledged to attack Nilfgaard. The epilogue says that he rallied all of the clans and together they fought off Nilfgaard.

I still prefer Cerys to be honest.

From an expanded logical perspective...

If Nilf focuses the war effort on Skellige, Northern Kingdoms are going to take an advantage of that to press force the attacks against Nilf. It does little good for Nilf if they conquer Skellige but Nilfgaard loses to (or at least gets heavily damaged by) other forces.

The thing is Nilfgaard has quite an army. And this is the third time they've invaded the north. The Skellige Isle are rather small in comparison with the rest of the kingdoms. Nilfgaard seeks to sieze control of the entire north but I can't see them focusing all of their forces there. It just wouldn't be worth it to them. Hence the deal they struck with Birna Bran for her son Svanrige.

At the end there, you saw Nilfgaard in force because of Ciri. Remember, Emhyr offers some of his troops to Geralt for the Battle at Kaer Morhen. He needed Geralt's approval because Voorhis would be in charge of the soldiers. Since Geralt refused the arrangement, he couldn't send his army to Kaer Morhen. He needed no such approval in Skellige however so the ships are there.

Seems legit :D
