Slow to No XP gain?
Hey, I've just recently purchased the Witcher 3 and I'm noticing a problem. I've completed nearly all of the quests in White Orchid, but I barely seem to have gotten any XP. I'm at level 3, and regularly running up against creatures around level 4-7. Is this normal? Because the leveling seems pretty slow, and I just want to make sure that is normal.

What difficulty you playing on? Death March slows XP gain right down
75% of the XP will come from working your way through the Main Quest(s). Where are you with those?

I'm leaving White Orchid to track down Yen. Also I'm playing on Story and Sword.

So should I just skip most of the side content then?

The side content makes the game super enjoyable and lets you learna bit about the world around you and Geralt aswell as some of the supporting characters, other side parts are filler fluff. I reccomend doing both dipping in and out

Should you skip sidequests? Hum..
Depends, do you care about the story of the game? if you do, yes you should, if you don't care, then no, they won't give you much xp or even crowns.
They are worth doing it for their story, and some of those sidequests are important for the main story (even if they are not marked as such).

So there's no reason to actually hunt monsters outside of those you are forced into through story mode? That seems off.

Well there is no real point in going around "grinding for monsters" unless loot/crafiting/alchemy items is what you are after, the xp gain is negligible at best.
The biggest xp/crowns rewards are in the main story and witcher contracts.

Besides doing the main quest? Contracts are the ones that will give you the most XP.
However keep in mind, that there is still a reason to explore, places of power give you ability points, and to get that you need to explore the map.

Also there is need to explore if you want to use the crafting/alchemy system in any meaningful way, sure basic potions can be crafted without much issues, but the more powerful potions and oils etc.. need ingredients that are hard to come by.

Can you repeat contracts? Or are they just one-off quests?

So what do you do to grind then? Sidequests don't give much XP, neither do random encounters, and these contracts are just one-offs that you can't repeat.

Zero need for grind, once the game gets going you will be overleveled L10-12 ish...Once you get to Velen you will be overwhelmed by how much there is to do and find in the world.

You can't repeat them, however they do give a significant amount of xp and crowns.
Keep in mind that, if you do those witcher contracts, and the sidequests (even if they don't give much xp on their own, they add up quite a bit overall) by the point you take on the main quest you will be overpowered to that mission.

There is no grinding. Do quests and contracts that are at or near your level. If you're more than 5 levels above a quest when you turn it in, even if you accepted it before that, you'll receive very little XP.

You can use a mod to fix the XP gain ensuring you recieve full XP no matter what level you are.

I'm already pretty underleveled. The base game has three maps, from the looks of things. And I'm only level 3. And now I'm heading off to the second area in the game

So wait, am I just screwed then if I don't do quests in the right order? Everything is one-off, so if I do quests in the wrong order I'll never be able to reach max level.
