Rune stones better sold than used?
Aren't they just vendor trash meant to be sold and never used?

Reasons :

1. Weak bonuses... what will +2% spell intensity do? nothing...
2. Can't be combined to be stronger, like mutagens
3. We burn through swords very fast, we just keep upgrading, why waste hundreds of gold putting runes in if in 30 minutes we'll switch sword because it's gonna be damaged or we found a new one...
4. They have high value, meaning the gold is often better than just the tiny useless bonus

So... Am I missing something or are they better sold than used?

if u carry too much same rune stones, u can sell some. I remember that u can create better stone with some small stone. Like IGNI buff from 2% all the way to 10%. Plus u need that in heart of stones expansion too get even more powerful buff on ur sword. There are plenty of these things in loot, just add it on ur gears. better than nothing buff
They can be combined (used to craft a better stone) but you need a Master Smith. And you will get gear with more than one slot. So you can get a massive boost by combining several 10 percent runes.
I thought progression goes like 2% 3% 5%. Only spell specific enhancers go up to ten like Quen + 10%. Or how do you get 10% runes??

Already have swords with 3 slots. But haven't seen anything bigger than 3%, and not sure where i would go to combine them. I met a couple of master smiths before but i don't recall them having a rune option.

I guess ill hold to mine for now and see.

2/3/5% for weapon runes. 5/7/10% for armor runes.
What will 5% skill intensity do for me?

Just 5% more damage on Igni for instance, of is more useful than that?

Sign Intensity makes all signs stronger. For instance, 1 sign intensity increases the chance for Igni to burn by 0.5% and its damage by 1%. So 5 igni intensity means +2.5% chance to burn and +5% damage.

So generally, higher intensity means better signs.

Ah more burn chance is quite useful, good to know. Thanks!

You're welcome!
Master Craftsmen can craft 'greater' runes.

For example: greater Greater Stribog Runestone gives a 5 percent chance to stagger (per hit). If you have three, you have a 15 percent chance to stagger which is quite useful against powerful enemies. 4 hits will give you a chance of 48 percent to stagger your enemy.

Obviously this is really useful with a lot of skill points invested in fast-attack. Stun is even better, but I don't like the effect.
I mostly used bleed + freeze (freeze alone can be fun in fact) and quen + bit of aard for armor runes. Fast attack build naturally.
Bleed and poison both make excellent choices for a steel sword, given that most things for which you'd use a steel sword are susceptible to both. For that matter, setting bandits on fire tends to make them stop attacking you while they freak out.

You can hit something like +80% intensity w/ glyphs (IIRC, 3 slots torso, 2 on two other pieces and one on the fourth piece) but it's a a pretty reasonable choice to use the torso slots for the Deflection glyphword. Runewords tend to be less popular AFAICT but Severance has its fans.
Remember when you get a new sword dismantle your old one to get the runes back, but that's really only worth doing if you have a greater rune installed.

Dismantle=destroys weapon, saves runes

Remove upgrade=destroys runes, saves sword

The stagger, stun, freeze runes can be game breakingly OP. Any solo monster is basically doomed if you freeze it. I actually tend to use lesser weapon runes because they are more balanced but still give you the cool glowing effect on your blade.

The armor piercing runes are only useful early game. Armor is a 1 for 1 damage reduction so even the greater rune only gives you 40 damage back against armored targets. Except for the first few steel swords you use 40 damage isn't even worth it. Plus remember strong attacks automatically negate all armor anyway.

From what I remember only a handful of monsters even have armor; golems, trolls, elementals, wyverns/forktails, werewolves, ekimara/katakans, arachii, and endrega. So using armor piercing on a silver sword isn't very useful.
