You should use your preferred control preference. I use Keyboard and Mouse in most games and it works perfectly fine for this. I could say it's best as I prefer it but anyone that says use a pad can say exactly the same. Someone telling you what the best is in thios case is usually a biased opinion. If I say use K&M but you prefer pads then I'm likely giving you wrong information.

Start by using what you prefer and change if you are not getting on with it not becuase of what someone else thinks is best.

I think this game plays best with a controller, of course not what the menus are concerned.

And I suck at playing with a controller.

I like a controller for all 3rd person games and a m/k for all first person games, just the way I roll.

You get four quick slots instead of just two.
Yuo get direct access to signs, rather than a game pausing menu system.
A real Quicksave. (F5)
Much easier map and menu navigation.
Faster camera movement response.
And most importantly, camera and steering are one control.

Thanks for this info. I am more of a controller type person myself. Played on the Xbox One and finally got it for PC. After reading this, I will try the keyboard and mours just for the direct access to signs. Always annoyed me I had to pause the game to do it.

If it doesn't work for I can always go back to controller since that is what I am use to. Now here is a question. Since I am a lefty when I use to use keyboard and mouse to play The Elder Scrolls game 3-5 I would always rebind the keys. Can I do it with Witcher 3 as well?

I prefer a gamepad so far. I usually play games that are strictly third person with a gamepad, it's a bit more relaxing I feel.

There is no superior, just preference. My preference is Xbox One controller but will try the keyboard and mouse to see if it's for my liking for Withcer 3. I would love to be able to cast signs without pausing the game.

Just wanted to necro reply this post and thank this guy for posting a thought out and intelligent opinion. For everyone saying ' wahh wahh we cant make that decision for you, its all preference' is dumb. You can objectively look at it, like in the case of Dark Souls - obviously superior on K/M. If the guy had an outstanding preference one over the other he would have just went with that and not asked. He can do either, and was asking which would be superior for this game. The low IQ is assault to me, and I'm going to press charges to everyone. REEEEEE
