[SOLVED] Game won't launch?
Guys, i bought the GOTY edition of the game today, but it just won't open.
i click on "PLAY", then a pop up saying that the game is being prepared to launch appears, then 2 sec later it disappears and then nothing.
no game open
no crash message
just nothing
anyone passed through this?

EDIT:
after almost giving up(glad i didnt xD), i managed to fix my problem using the windows event viewer to know that the problem was with a dll called "user32.dll".
turns out that a program called Trusteer Endpoint, which is a security program that my bank requires for internet banking, was "using" or maybe "blocking" the access for that dll so game couldnt reach it.
i found about this issue on this url:
https://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt/witcher_3_appcrash_on_launch
its the 2nd post!

Some questions for you. Please post your system specs. But more importantly, what OS are you running and is it 64-bit? The game will not run on 32-bit.

Next, do you see anything else on screen, such as anything saying it's preparing the game for the first time run? The game needs Visual C++ libraries to run properly. It should install these as it installs the game but it can't hurt to do it yourself.

Look in your game directory:

steamapps > common > The Witcher 3 > _CommonRedist > vcredist

There should be two folders there: 2012 and 2013. Open each of them and run the _x64 files in both of them.

Then I'd suggest doing a verification of the game cache. Right click on the game title and select Properties. Then click on the Local Files tab. Now click on the Verify Integrity of the Game Cache. Let it run. It may take a while as it checks all of your files and replaces anything missing or damaged.

Then I'd check your video card and make sure you have the latest drivers for them. After all that, I'd reboot the PC and restart Steam and try running the game again.

Good luck.

Hey mate, first of all, thanks for your answer!

My system specs are:
Windows 7 Professional 64bits
I5 4690K
GTX 750 TI
16GB RAM

Yes, as i mentioned, when i click PLAY the steam opens a pop up saying that the game is being prepared to run. But this pop up closes after 2 seconds and then nothing happens...and by nothing i really mean nothing, no error message, no game proccess running, just nothing.

I have Visual C++ installed and i've already done the steps of going into CommonRedist folder and repairing both visual c++ 2012 and 2013. didnt work

Already done the verify integrity of the game files too, at least 3 times. nothing.

and also installed the latest drivers for my video card, actually it was the first thing i've tried yesterday, but again, nothing.

I dont know what else can i do...i think i'll probably ask steam for a refund...dont think i'll make it work so no more options for me :/

Thanks anyway for ur answer!

perhaps firewall/antivirus blocking steam or the game? maybe steam and/or the game doesnt have permission to create folders/files.
should have a "The Witcher 3" folder in My Documents. should have user.settings file - if there, look thru it. maybe the game cant figure out your video settings correctly.

Try launching the game without steam.

To do that go into the game directory and launch the game through the .exe file found in the x64 subfolder located in the bin folder.

hey m8!
already done this test too! closed my AV, and turned off my firewall. Nothing.
I looked on the my documents and there is a The Witcher 3 folder, but there is no file inside. it's an empty folder...why wouldnt the game be able to create the file?

done that too, in order to check if maybe a crashlog would appear, but nothing happened too. no crashlogs on the game folder...is there a specific folder where the crashlogs appear? cause i can't seem to find any.

Anyway i'll try all those things again today when i get home, i did all in hurry yesterday cause i needed to sleep to work today xD

thanks for all ur replies!

i actually have no idea where the crash logs for witcher 3 would be stored, probably the game folder.

you could try using windows event log and see if windows detects something wrong.

yeah actually windows should at least give you some information through the event viewer.

if you don't know where it is, you can access the event viewer through control panel, administrative tools event viewer, in the event viewer go in custom views > administrative events, and see if there is an error warning about witcher 3.

no user preferences created - seem to indicate permission problem reading/writing to folder or game cant figure out settings for your graphics/monitor or dx/c++ problem. click on help top of this window then system information then copy/paste everything here. maybe someone will spot something. and check the event viewer as brT suggested.

What was the problem?
broow182 Mar 29, 2017 @ 4:51pm
the best thing i did was enter the event viewer.

the reason it took me so long to see the event viewer was because it were giving me an error when i was trying to open it, which i had to search on google how to fix so i could open event viewer properly.

so, taking a look on the event viewer fail report that i posted (post 18), i imagined that the problem could have something to do with that USER32.DLL.

So i search for "the witcher 3 user32.dll" on google and i found a forum where a guy had this problem too.
He said that he found out that a program called "Trusteer" was kinda "using" that user32.dll making it doesnt work for the game.

As my PC has this program, which is a security program that my bank use, i just deactivated the trusteer program, and tried to open the game.
AND...
IT...
OPENED!
YAY!

NEVER GIVE UP IS THE ANSWER!
YAAAAAAY
hope this helps someone with exact the same issue xD

Guys, thanks for all your effort on making me solve my problem.
u all were awesome
seriously
i love you all. ♥
