Yeah sorry i mixed up the start of Witcher 3 to this.
There was a thing before witcher 1's events where Ciri comes and saves yennefer and Geralt from an angry mob of villagers, the villagers were going to attack Elves and Dwarves of the city (racial riots) and when Geralt stepped in to defend them with Yennefer, they attacked Geralt and impaled him with a pitchfork. He managed to kill MANY villagers before he was impaled by a young villager though.
THIS was the reason why i thought his name is the "butcher of blaviken" Because he killed many people in Rivia before "dying" in the fight defending the elves and dwarves.
I always get Rivia Pogrom incident and Butchering of Blaviken mixed up with eachother, both are really similar.

death = 5 = "massacre"
Killing people and burying them doesn´t have the same effect in the public´s psyche than killing 5 people in public square and painting all of it in blood. Think before typing.
I agree that there are way too many enemies for the sake of giving the players something to do, but this is the norm in most AAA games tbh, particularly the ones that have a large open world.
This just widens the gap between story/gameplay especially in TW series because they were based on the books in which killing is not nearly as frequent as in the game.
Oh, the this particular story will be featured in The Witcher movie that is supposed to come out this year, if I'm not mistaken. Might want to look out for that
"The movie adaptation of The Witcher will be spearheaded by producer Sean Daniel, best known for the Mummy series and its various Scorpion King-related spin-offs, who will work alongside Poland’s own Platige Films. This won’t be the first time Platige Films has had a hand in the Witcher series – they’re responsible for a few trailers and cinematic sequences for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt."
"Tomek Baginski, a Polish filmmaker best known for his Oscar-nominated animated short The Cathedral, will make his feature debut with The Witcher. Thania St. John, whose credits include episodes of Grimm, Eureka, and Roswell is writing the screenplay. Despite having an experienced director of animation at the helm and a the backing of a studio known for creating animation for The Witcher, all signs point to this movie being live-action."
Nothing is known about the cast, but I personally pray to gods hoping that it is a fully animated film.

Check at "in development" section (scroll down a bit). No other news I think.
Meanwhile, check this masterpiece I just stumbled upon. I don't like fan made films in general but this seems particularly cringy, but maybe it's just me
Oh, I've seen this fan film and liked it, heh heh. BTW, that's just Maul Cosplay. He's quite famous for cosplaying as geralt. He's done various shoots as geralt including the infamous bath-tub one:
