I played B&W after the main quest so still have NG+ to do. Blood and Wine does play like an epilogue so you might want to play that last. I had already played trhrough twice before getting it on Steam so it might be different for me. If it's your first playthrough it might be good to leave B&W till last.

Blood and Wine does unlock a certain feature which lets you use ability points and mutagens to further strengthen Geralt.

Blood & Wine will net you Grandmaster armor if you're into Witcher gear. Aside from looking cool, the set bonuses turn you into a badass. Nevermind that the grandmaster blacksmith in Toussaint is going to give you better rates on weapons and armor. We're talking pennies on the dollar, but y'know ... witcher's gotta eat :>

Might be worth doing the expansion for the sake your crafting ingredients because you'll be oozing in meteorite bars, draconid leather and gems.

I was about the same level as you when starting Blood & Wine, then completed everything at level 51.

Do it.

thanks for all the replies ive decided to just start a new game plus because my reasoning being when i play blood and wine i want that to be my proper send off wish me luck for death march im sure ill need it!!

you should at least start blood and wine and play a certain side quest to unlock the new character abilites :/ it makes the combat on the second playthrough a bit more fun and adds some variety to the game ^^

Take Darkinvader's advice. Do Blood And Wine at least up to the point where you unlock the extra skill slots and abilities. It carries over into NG+ and if you skip it you have to wait until pretty much the end of the game for a chance to unlock it again.

It's a sidequest that unlocks fairly early. Soon after reaching Beauclair a messenger will bring you a letter that starts the quest. The quest is called Turn and Face the Strange.

I just finished Blood & Wine tonight for the first time on normal. The main story line was brilliant and interesting. I collected everything what Geralt can earn (from grandmaster gears to mutations for example) so i spent almost 50 hours in game...again.
If I have a lot of time, I would play the whole story in New Game Plus on a harder level. So if I were you, I would do the same what you wanna do. ;)

Craig, I know you’re off to do B&W but to further keep you locked in, that is one beautiful expansion that neither the main game, nor hos can compare to. The area is gorgeous, and the soundtrack is beyond captivating! And besides, by the time you get through the NG+ of the main quest you still got lvl 80s HoS to do and lvl 100+ B&W. You'll fall in love all over again!

Story wise do new game + then blood and wine, for combat etc do blood and wine first. Blood and Wine gets you badass grandmaster armor + new mutagen system, while if you do ng+ it serves as more of a endgame/epilogue dlc.
