How does rend work?

I thought it would work like whirl, just holding down strong attack instead of fast but I only do a normal strong attack and after that nothing. So is it a passive ability which just applies to the crit chance and armor piercing of your strong attacks?

No, there should be like a wind up animation where he uses 2 hands and pulls it over and behind his head, just hold strong attack and it should work.

Hm, maybe it's because I assined strong attack to mouse button 4? I'll try it with ctrl, thanks!

Hold down both Shift and the Left Mouse Button. This will generate Geralt's "wind up". You'll notice stamina decrease during this action. When you're ready, release the Left Mouse Button. Geralt's strong attack damage will be increased in proportion to the amount of stamina used while holding down the buttons.

Ah now it worked, all I had to do is assign it with a mutagen in the pannel to the right of your skill tree, didn't know that. Thanks though, it's working now and oh my it does a ton of damage

Oh yes. All skills must be active (placed in a slot to the right) in order to work.

I hope you realize all skills need to be slotted in order to work...

But yeah rend is actually really good, especially if you get the severance rune word from the rune smith in Hearts of Stone. Rend really shines against shield bearers since you can cleave straight through their block.

Yeah, if you want to use a skill you have to put it in a slot, otherwise it does nothing.

Ah now I see, thank you. I will probably have to activate some different abilities then since I have three blue mutagens and one red one ^^

Mutagens of similar color will impart additional benefit in the diamond slots, but the skills themselves only work when they're in the square slots.
