Go into steam's big picture mode, and in Controller settings, uncheck all the options in there.

Steam's big picture controller support causes conflict with witcher 3 native controller support, therefore if big picture's controller support (or any other 3rd party controller support) is active on your system, witcher 3 will have problems recognizing your controller.

Hi, after having un-checked all the options in the big picture mode, steam is still recognizing my ds4 as the button prompts in the big picture modes are the ones of ps4. Hence, when I start witcher 3 it still shows xbox prompts, any fix? Thx!

After restarting my Steam today(force update), suddenly my game change to xbox prompt. Somehow by running the game directly from their folder, my game show PS4 button prompt.

Only workaround that i'm aware now is to bypass the steam client. Go into the game folder find the .exe file (it's located in bin>x64 > Witcher 3.exe launch the game through that and it will work properly.

Basically from what I can tell is there was a Steam update that changed the way controllers were detected. Before hand Steam wouldn't detect DS4 controllers unless the option was checked in the big picture controller settings, now however, Steam seems to detect the DS4 no matter what and then disable it afterwards causing steam to take control over games with native DS4 support and changing the prompts.

You need to open the game in the steam app (NOT BIG PICTURE) make sure that you have reconnected your controller, so steam does not recognise your controller.

Or connect your controller while your in the game.

Tried that but it still switches back to the Xbox controls

That works perfectly! Thanks so much!

I did that, but, I get double prompts for keyboard icons every few seconds.

then you must have another 3rd party controller program enabled, witcher 3 has its own native controller suppor, and it works pretty well in detecting what device you are using be a keyboard and mouse a ds4 or a xbox controller or whatever, it seems to be pretty good, but if you have anything else that emulates or is a program to interact with a controller that can cause witcher 3 to not work properly.

right now the biggest issue people are having is the steam client, if you bypass the steam client by launching the game directly through the .exe file found in the game folder, the steam client has no way to interact with the game, therefore (assuming no other 3rd party controller suports are present) the game should do its job well.

what I did that worked was putting forced off in the big picture configuration for the game's controller options
