*Spoilers* question about the choice in "An Elusive Thief".
The doppler you face is the only doppler in the game that drops he Mutagen.
I'm a sort of a completionist and really want to have all the decots crafted, even though the doppler one is pretty useless.
But the Morality in me isn't allowing me to kill him.

What do?

Just use the console to cheat it in. It doesn't really matter.

additem('Doppler mutagen')

I was told that using console commands breaks achievements and stuff.

Nope. Only patches can break achievements. Mods and the debug console do not.

But doesn't that mean i can literally clear quite a few achievements by just using console commands..?

So? Achievements don't really matter for anything.

Unless the achievements are secured, you could probably get all the achievements without even ever playing the game.

Ah.. Well that kinda defeats my purpose of grinding for the hard ones..

There are definitely enough endings to justify multiple runs of the main story. Perhaps you could make a note of choices like this and choose differently if/when you do a NG+ or another fresh run.

For what it's worth, I managed a death march dry run rather easily (after learning combat) without using a single decoction, as I spent the entire game shamefully believing that every decoction was a single-use item. :)

I very much doubt that OP feels the need to actually use the Doppler decoction. He probably just wants it for the sake of having all of the alchemy stuff.

Well trainers have pretty much done that for years, haven't they? If you're that concerned about it, don't use the debug console. The real cheat using it is for the Gwent cards. Everything else is a matter of perspective.

Some of the combat achievements can be truly annoying when you can't find enough enemies in the game world to do them successfully. Sometimes the game fails to acknowledge achievements that should have unlocked but you can't find more enemies to try again. And again. And again. That's when the debug console really comes in handy in that you can call up mobs to fight against and finally get those achievements unlocked.

As for secured achievements, I think you're expecting far too much from CDPR. Hell, several of their own patches broke achievements and needed to be fixed again and again. If they can't even get that right, how do you expect them to lock out the debug console from getting those achievements? Be grateful the damn game runs as well as it does.

The achievements matter if they matter to you.

Well the only one i'm struggling with right now is the 50 headshots with crossbow, as the hit detection with it is rather unrealiable

I share your frustration. I cleared that one after most of my others in order to take the difficulty slider down. Also used the respawning at Devil's Pit to make it easier to repeat the action. This is the only achievement I found overly tedious; 10 would've sufficed.

At least nothing is locked behind it, like in-game equipment you can't get any other way -- something to do to challenge yourself if you like, but not really missing out if you don't.

50 headshots is a pretty goofy achievement for W3 considering that the crossbow has relatively limited use -- decent for wounding flying enemies, godly underwater since it's literally the only weapon you can use, but you have to have a pretty strange build to prefer a crossbow to other weapons on bandits and other land-bound enemies in general. Cat Eyes + full Marksmanship + fast attacks, exploding bolts?

~~

As for decoctions -- yes, there's one chance only for Doppler, and Succubus is also pretty limited with two chances, both of which situations can be resolved peacefully.
