Hidden door detection?
So I've been playing a while now and I'm yet to detect a hidden door :( I've found them by pressing the action button but that gets annoying. Can anyone enlighten me on how or when I get it? On a side note where do I get the blacksmith material, he keeps asking for?

Clerics have a level 1 spell which lasts a short time and a level 3 one which lasts a whole dungeon that helps you detect secret doors. Unfortunately it's still not 100% that your characters trigger upon passing them.

If you look at quest numbers that will give you a hint on when you'll solve them. The grotto quests are something like 5 6 and 7.. the ore quest is 30. You won't find the ore for a long time. Look it up on the wiki if you want to be completely spoiled.
Erode/Eroma and class with Thief Skills can detect hidden doors. But they are NOT 100%, so you just have to you use your intuition.

That's what I've been doing up until now. Just wanted an easier way :(

In the Grotto I found the door leading deeper and the one leading to the treasure via intuition, but I cannot see how someone could find the priest without lucking out or clicking on every blank space. There is no reason to search that area in particular.

I must be odd, as I find the methodical nature of the game most appealing. Move a space, map that space, check for hidden doors, then repeat ad infinitum.

The manual mapping is one of the things I find absorbing about this genre, and this game in particular thanks to having grid cartographer on my tablet open right next to the PC. Pressing the 'Y' key on the gamepad in front of every wall is just part of the process for filling in a square.

It's very similiar to Etrian Odyssey in that regard, every wall needs checking if you want to be sure of not missing anything. Not everybody's cup of tea I'm sure, but there are some of us who enjoy it!

I like dungeon crawling as much as anyone else, but Wizardry-style dungeons are essentially random and have no rhyme or reason. Dungeon Master-style dungeons typically have a logical layout which allows you to deduct the location of secret rooms.

Don't get me wrong, I very much like the game, but the location of some of the secret rooms seems completely arbitrary.

There is a dungeon later on in the game where the Priest spells don't work for finding secret doors, but there's a pattern to where they are. So far its easily my favourite dungeon design, feels like there was some actual thought put into it.

Err, there was one guy sometime back who I believe stated that erod is more effective than eroma at finding hidden doors. Maybe just a coincidence? I wouldn't be surprised though since eroma hasn't done crap for me, though I don't think i've missed any hidden doors anyway.
