While it's good to reload a few times to get the HP for your first level or two of gains to be high (since having 8HP for your front line party is just awful), it's not worth the bother after that - the game will make your party's HP tend toward the norm for your characters' classes anyway.
The game works by checking your current hp each level up compared to a static value for your level/class and then reajusts it every level. If you already earned multiple big hp increases, the game might give you less for a while, and if you're slacking behind because lol rng gods.. then at some point when it rejusts your max hp you'll get a big increase.
so after 2 or 3 levels of trying to get big hp increases, it pretty much becomes impossible to get more.
So think about race when you roll too.
Rerolling until getting slightly less ♥♥♥♥ results is a proud Wizardry tradition.
Each class has a "hit die" value. I don't know the precise values for Elminage, but for example, Fighters in classic Wizardry have a d10 hit die.
Every time you level up, the game rerolls your character's entire HP total. That is to say, it doesn't just roll 1d10 and add that much HP. When you hit level 2, it rolls 2d10. When you hit level 3, it rolls 3d10, and so on.
If the rolled total is higher than your maximum HP, then that's your new maximum HP. Otherwise, you gain 1 HP.
Yea, is a proud Witardry exploiting tradition :)
