1HP per level up?
Is this right...? It seems no matter how much VIT i give a char, they just get 1 HP per level. I guess I can understand that for mages, but I would hope fighters get more....

It's pretty random, sometimes your warriors will get 1 and sometimes they'll get 31. If it's that big of a deal you can always save before leveling up and then redo it, but the average will give you plenty over time.

It's random how much HP you get on a level-up, sometimes you get 1, sometimes you get much more. It's a little whack in how it works but it's only a big deal at the lower levels.

I started out by reloading saves after rolling a 'bad' HP gain when I was leveling, but found that after a level or two, the game was going to force a 1 HP gain on me once in a while no matter what. Each class seems to have an 'average' HP total per level they tend toward, and too many gains beyond that average result in the gains being reined back for a level or two.

While it's good to reload a few times to get the HP for your first level or two of gains to be high (since having 8HP for your front line party is just awful), it's not worth the bother after that - the game will make your party's HP tend toward the norm for your characters' classes anyway.

Exactly - not worth save scumming. It works the same way in Elminage Original.. if I get a long chain of bad luck on health gains, I'll suddenly bump into a level where I gain like 70 health. It all balances out in the end.

Just as Airstrike stated, its normal to sometimes get 1's in leveling, when you get a lot in a row its generally just the game doing what it can to make you miserable, as any other wizardry title will try to.

The game works by checking your current hp each level up compared to a static value for your level/class and then reajusts it every level. If you already earned multiple big hp increases, the game might give you less for a while, and if you're slacking behind because lol rng gods.. then at some point when it rejusts your max hp you'll get a big increase.

reload after bad HP roll is exploit or cheating..play like man!!! hehe:)
iirc, the game rolls health in a D&D like way. each class has a dice that is rolled level times to find the new max HP at level up, but if that number is below their current max health, then they just give a bonus +1 health.

so after 2 or 3 levels of trying to get big hp increases, it pretty much becomes impossible to get more.
Also race do matter sometimes.. like Dragonewt mage could have more HP than Elf lord. That is funny because mage is usually worst class to rise HP than any other class.
So think about race when you roll too.

Nah.
Rerolling until getting slightly less ♥♥♥♥ results is a proud Wizardry tradition.

It works exactly the same way as most Wizardry games and clones thereof:

Each class has a "hit die" value. I don't know the precise values for Elminage, but for example, Fighters in classic Wizardry have a d10 hit die.

Every time you level up, the game rerolls your character's entire HP total. That is to say, it doesn't just roll 1d10 and add that much HP. When you hit level 2, it rolls 2d10. When you hit level 3, it rolls 3d10, and so on.

If the rolled total is higher than your maximum HP, then that's your new maximum HP. Otherwise, you gain 1 HP.

I'm guessing that's done to avoid having people abusing the class change's 'keeping HP' to get lot and lot of HP that way.
