"Do you want to invest gold to improve this character?"
...or something like that. I got this question when I created some extra characters to use in town only like the Alchemist and Bishop.

I tried it once but it seemed to be bugged in my game, but I'll get to that later.

My question for now is, can you choose to spend gold at any time to improve a character, or is it a one-time offer right after character creation?

I think that's where you can trade gold for experience points. It doesn't work?

It's one-time deal during character creation/change class. Gold traded to experience points 1:1, but only up to 999 999, and source is only one character (so he/she must accumulate all this gold before creation process).

Maybe that's why I thought it was bugged. When I chose "yes" to upgrade the char, it showed a list of all my other chars and they were all greyed out. I guess none of them had enough gold to spend on the new char maybe?

Hmmm. Strange. Do you remember it right? I just checked: I can register new or change class. In first case I go to creation screen immediately, in second - I have full list of my characters to select from (with GP listed at right). In both cases when adjustments complete, I can invest money in the traning - and here I got my standard 6 active characters icons, and can select any one from them.

And if I haven't _any_ active characters (I just tested it), system simply says "class changed" without offering to train.

Also, I was wrong: it's 9,999,999, not 999K, that can be invested. Not much difference for me, when I traded 20M experience for that... but quite a difference up to the middle game.
