Will there be romance options in Pillars of Eternity?

In a gameplay demo I recall it being stated that there wouldn't, but I also recall there being feedback from people who really wanted for there to be, so I ask, has Obsidian reconsidered putting romancable characters and romance quests in the game?

Because people love them, and because reasons.

Hate to say it... but im not going to miss romance options.
Character interactions are awesome. Having some bizarre romance with a video game character has always seemed like a waste of resources to me.
Especially when its a same sex option. You're all free to do whatever you want in life, i don't want to experience that in my videogame.

I'm one of those why dislike the idea of romance options in PoE. But I've got to say, it would be kind of interesting to see how good Obsidian is when it comes to video game romantic relationship.

All any developer interested in Romance Scripts ever needs to do is look at the romance options in Baldur's Gate 2 and copy that

I remember confronting Aerie on her constant whining about being wingless and telling her that looking down on people without wings wasn't cool, but Her'Dalis (I know I may be spelling the names wrong) was a user and I wouldn't let him hurt her, so eventually he attacked me and we dueled to the death.

Yeah it would be cool - but i dont mind it not being there. I remember an interview with them saying basically it was just a time/resource issue, they had to prioritise other things before it so it just never happened. There are full on companion story arcs and you need to be careful how you treat them and they take notice of how you act/react in the world and they act/react to that, possibly even leaving your party for good - so at least there is companion interaction to that level...

...you just can bonk them :P

In Baldur's Gate 2, the companions had story archs and you had to take notice of things or otherwise you could end up alienating them, or even getting them killed.

And Amoen went insane, he became this crazed obsessed stalker because I convinced him to betray his vows and he lost everything, my character was all he had left, and when I spurned him it did not end well.

Hopefully they'll have the resources to include romance in the sequel.

Baldur's Gate 2 really did set the bar in that department.

Well, IWD was never big on story/romance/character interactions. Just mentioning since if I'm not wrong this is the dev team we're talking about. A true successor to BG, though... Well, might not come in our lifetime. We might just get BG running with mods and roll a new char every year :P
