Is this game's story good?
I'm on the edge of purchasing it, the gameplay looks alright. I loved the original fallouts but the one thing that'll push me to buy this game is whether or not the story has a lot to offer.

I find it wholly credible that people would react desperately in response to finding out for sure there is no god, no apparent higher purpose to life, no apparent restraint on wholesale wickedness etc, and that any opportunity to create one to fill the perceived vacuum would be seized at more or less any cost for the sake of saving civilization.

After all a lot of people feel like that about religion IRL.

So u are saying u find it credible that a whole civilization sacrificed itself because they believed everyone is doomed without real gods?
A lot of ppl feel like that about religion IRL? Really? How many are willing to kill themselfs, really really small grps. U are not gonna see civilizations suicide even in 10s of thousands for the greater good. For same reason there is no movements in history of humanity that thought beating their heads against a wall would help them achieve greater good. Cause common sense. U cannot just say that humanity has unlimited potential for stupidity simply cause u can think of unlimited ways a human can do stupid things.

IOW, you (as the PC) are not the author of your own destiny (or at least not a great deal of it). OTOH, you do destroy the Big Bad and Save the World (or at least make a small part of it substantially better). But I think most ppl consider the PC in Morrowind to be The Chosen One for the purposes of that trope. You are much more than a nobody in BGII. You are clearly special in the story. (Not unique but special). You are targeted by the Big Bad (in a way that you never are in Morrowind until you decide to confront him) and end up destroying him.

Oh please, you were sent to Morrowind because the emperor had a vision about you being the one true hope. Then you learn that you're the reincarnation of the Dunmer god-hero. Then you have personal dealings with Tiber Septim and every daedric lord in the known cosmos. You're the very definition of chosen one. In fact, that's how it is for every Elder Scrolls game. Random nobody is actually the gods' chosen hero.

Well, on the bright side; maybe he can answer his own question now. So, what do you think; is the story any good?

=p Sorry it was spoiled.

Which is why I said that most ppl would consider the PC in Morrowind to be The Chosen One. I have no problems with that bc the PC ticks many of The Chosen One boxes. I don't think it is at all clear that you are actually the reincarnation of the Dunmer god-hero. I think that you are treated as such by the Empire and Azura bc it serves their purposes. I don't remember anything about a vision by the Emperor about you, in particular, being the Neverarine but even if that occurs, it's clear from all the prior "Neveraines" that higher powers (whether earthly or divine) are trying to create a Dunmar hero and that you happen to be their patsy (aka "Chosen One"), in part bc you are an unknown nobody (aka a blank slate as far as the Morrowind populace is concerned) and someone who will probably be easy to manipulate bc you are in an unknown land with few resources and (initially at least) only contacts that are given to you by the Empire.

Are u saying that PC being able to wear the "nerevar ring" without dying was all a set up?
Edit - Looked it up, its called Moon-and-Star ring. Supposedly only Nerevarine can wear it without dying.

You put on the ring, didn't you? Only the Nerevarine can do that. Unlike our real world examples, the deities in settings like Elder Scrolls and Forgotten Realms are very real, and do real things. You're the literal chosen of Azura.

Kind of. It was a set up bc Azura and the Emperor keep trying to find someone who can become the Neveraine. They will keep trying until they find someone. But wearing the ring is not enough. That is only part of the third trial. If it wearing the ring were equivalent to being the Neverarine, you would not need to, e.g., become the Horator of the houses in addition to wearing the ring.

Supposedly. The text is pretty ambiguous about that, like it is about many things in Morrowind. It seemed to me that it was more "this is the legend surrounding the ring" or possibly propaganda from Azura to give her power over who becomes the Neveraine. Or it may be true. But NPCs can equip the ring and not die. I'm not sure if that was a bug or a feature.

Thats exactly how it went for me story wise. First i thought ok good start, we may have something here, but it just went downhill from there. Caed Nua is just 15 levels of bs, reminds more of some kind of diablo. It seems like first they designed 15 levels with scaling difficulty, added bosses and then when they done it, they thought oh lets throw some generic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story about how the dragon lived there forever and is the true owner of the castle etc etc. Then basically the premise for the whole games plot is that ancient ppl were so so sad about everyone slaughtering each other for sake of different fake gods that dont exist, they decided to sacrifice like their whole population to create some beings that resemble gods to save humanity.

jeezus.. spoiler much?

Anyway, just finished the game this morning. Enjoyed the story a lot!
