Zoran Zenius Cavic a bit grotesque?
Zoran is the fire godlike who stands in the middle of the bridge to defiance bay.

You can reach for his soul and read his past.

I find though his description way too much it's so unreal that it's almost grotesque. :-)

I found a TON of the 'reach out and touch someone' dialogues were a bit...messed up

Gold names NPC are player (backer) made bio. Obsidian did nothing in this case. Expect probably check it wasn't insulting.
So yeah, expect low quality writing, lesbian erotic story, and the like.
Tombstones are also backer made.

I skip them myself. Quite frankly, there should be a warning sign the first time like "not part of the story". You have it in the random tip from the loading screen, but it's random.

I suspect that Obsidian's writers actually wrote the golden NPC soul-reads, but crafted them according to backer input. The prose is too consistent (and good) to have had each story contributed directly by a different backer.

The Zoran tale is amusing, but it does seem a little out of place. Then again, you're talking about a world where people are zealously killed over fallen rocks and abandoned ruins. Maybe a sociopathic mage who slaughters villagers for pears isn't so far-fetched. Crazier things happen in the real world every day.

Some of the oddball names and the prevalence of godlikes are more annoying to me than the micro-stories.

No way you kill 100 villagers to get a ♥♥♥♥ing pear! Not even the epitomy of evil would do this.

The guy who wrote this for himself, or gave feedback to be written is a psychopath. :-)

Whoa now. We're talking about a basket of pears, which is clearly a different set of circumstances.

Of course there are. You are being racist now. :-)

Haha, I found the gold-NPC stories a little repetitive after a while, but this was the last one I read and it made me laugh. Mages go deranged now and then, everyone knows it. And pears are quite delicious. I thought it was one of the funnier parts of the game. (What is this killer's motivation? Fruit! A classic story of untold power and pears.)

Even more interesting, attacking / killing him doesn't trigger aggro on other NPCs like it usually does, and you gain no reputation loss for is... it seems he's "supposed" to be killed after reading his background ;-)

WTH.......thats me lol ummmmm this is what I wrote on the survey:

"Not talkative or social. Hates humans even though he is one. Is obsessed with fruit. Talks slow, likes to think over his answers.

He is a mage. He likes to be random in battle making him unpredictable"

Thanks a lot Obsidian >_< you made me a psycho.

Hahahahaha.

They made a funny story using your parameters. (pearameters?)

Just enjoy your pears.

Phew. I wasn't sure what the deal was with these guys and whether or not they might end up being significant later... but when I found this Zoran guy and saw the story about killing villagers for pears ... I ordered my party to attack him and kill him on the spot.
After that I did a quick search online to make sure he wasn't important. Was going to reload of he had any sort of significance to him, but it is reassuring to know he doesn't.

Sorry for the necro.

They are the infamous kickstarter backer NPCs that are unrelated to the story and - if establishing soul contact - only display a short story contributed by a crowdfunding campaign supporter that designed the backer NPC. They have weird names that don't fit the lore, and they have a slightly yellowish/golden name plate - unlike other NPCs in the game. One of the loading screen messages gives a hint about them.

So, yeah, better avoid them like the plague, unless you are into reading such short stories.
