Is a bow considered to be a two-handed style weapon?
I am thinking of giving my backliners two-handed style (it gives x 1.15 damage for two handed weapons). Does anybody know if two-handed style is just for melee weapons or do guns/bows/ xbows/ arbalests/ really big rocks also count?

When last I checked, no it is not. That Two-Handed Style talent only applies to melee weapons so far as I know.

Even IRL two handed style only means melee weapons, as a ranged stance is fondamentally different, you don't use your hands and your feet the same way.

Oddly enough. From my testing, wielding a 2h weapon and cast a spell will multiply the damage.

Which is a really cool bug!

Is it a bug? Or just how the game's rules work?
DarkExcalibur42 Apr 27, 2015 @ 12:16pm
I don't think spells are intended to be treated as 2 handed weapons, no.
Balkoth Apr 27, 2015 @ 12:19pm
Well the text just says "damage is multiplied while weilding a 2h weapon". Nothing about melee. or type of damage. If anything it's not nessesarily a bug, but just a design flaw of the talent.

Weapons are broken down categorically:

If that occurs, it is a flaw in how the talent was coded that results in an unintended gameplay experience. Colloquially, I call those bugs.

Ya, if your not really experienced with RPGs, this game can really confuse you (as it did my friend) 2-Handed = Melee Weapon; then Bows/Crossbows are a seperate catagory.

Also, it can really throw you for a loop if you mistake two, one-handed weapons skills too. Even yet, one-handed weapons skils will not work if you equip ANYTHING in your second hand. So if you use a 1-h weapon and a shield, 1-h skill does nothing for you.

I really wish when you were leveling up, it showed the type of weapons the character was holding, as you have NO way of knowing if your upping the correct skills unless you exit all leveling screens and go back to that particular character, and write down what they have/use.

Actually, in poe the one handed mastery talent works with the shield holding talent (don't know if it's a bug, might be, but still works).

I could be wrong of course, but I thought 1-handed meant you are using a melee weapon in one hand, and nothing in the other, giving you all sorts of bonuses.

There is a seperate, 1-h & shield skill otherwise.
Drake Apr 27, 2015 @ 1:01pm
Maybe they meant that, but gameplay wise if you pick one handed talent and use a shield you still get the bonus from the talent. Might be a bug, might not, I don't know, what I know is that I tried and it worked.

Interesting point, I am using a one-handed sword with shield and leveling one- handed skills. Most shields only afffect defensive stats, unless it is "The Larder Door" which has an offensive " Bash" stat, which is the shield I am curently using.
So you think I should be leveling two handed weapons?

If you plan on using a 1-h weapon and shield, you could go for the "weapon and shield" skill.

I don't think fighting with a pike, a quarterstaff or a 2h sword is all that similar in real life neither. There has also been no moment in my life where i was told i had levelled up, and asked to choose between a bonus on defence, offence or extra spells (but how cool would that be? Man, what if i could level up from level 0 to whatever i am right now :-) )

Anyway, my point was melee isn't mentioned anywhere as i can tell and they are weapons that use 2 hands, possibly even more so than a sword. An ogre or a giant would be fine I imagine with using a pike in one hand or maybe even a pike in 1 hand and a 2h sword in the other, but even it will need to use 2 hands for a bow..
