Really...I don't dislike a single character. The one character I haven't been using a whole lot would be the Grieving Mother...and that is mainly because she got me killed in the first fight I brought her into. Well...I got me killed...but I didn't know anything about her class so I haven't put her back in lol.
1. Durance
2. Grieving Mother
3. Eder
4. Sagani
5. Hiravias
6. Kana
7. Pallegrina
8. Aloth
None of them are bad, but rather Durance and the Grieving Mother are exceptional. Little surprise given who wrote them.
I really liked Calisca. The little we got to know about her, it made me kinda dissapointed she was only temporary.
I admit, most of this list isn't saying bad. Just who I enjoyed more.
you get beastiality jokes, not ♥♥♥♥ jokes
1) Grieving Mother
2) Eder
3)Adoth
4)Pallegia
5)Durance
6)Sagani
7)Kana
8)Hiravias
Grieving Mother and Eder reminded me of Kriea and Atton from KotoR II for some reason so they really stood out for me.
Aloth became my favorite character because, as the story progresses we see how layered his character actually is. He is literally split down the middle and is quite shady (in the grey) and true to life (in the sense that he's not a black or white cardboard cut out, not you know, that he's a wizard with an awakened soul that has a dual personality vying for control of his body in certain situations). He's had a hard life, still has much to come to terms with, has trust issues, knows what it's like to be shunned, and yet still makes for excellent comic relief.
Grieving mother also has quite a rich narrative attached to her and struggles with her own demons, but isn't as "balanced" as Aloth or Eder are. I really enjoy what we learn of her past and how decisions we make can easily cross a line, even when the decisions we make are made with sincere altruism. How broken she is, yet how we can help her heal by facing and "deciphering" (yep, went there) the puzzle that has become her mind until we face the truth alonside her when and if she is coaxed the right way.
Eder also has a sarcastic/cynical humor to him while somehow still releasing glimpses of hopefulness throughout his time with us.
En-Durance is extremely colorful and also has quite the narrative attached to him. He's leaning more on the eccentric/perverted comedic relief which is kind of the antithesis of the Grieving Mothers personality. His lesson is a harsh one much like GM however and makes for a very interesting character arc.
Kana always made me laugh. He was the bumbling Academic that was knowledgeable yet sometimes said questionable things, in an innocently idiotic kind of way. Of course he repeated the same things over and over which I know got on a lot of people's nerves... "I will be as quiet as a calm sea...which, is not, err, very, quiet..." Or the awesome "Hello? Hellooooo?!" Besides that though, I found his outlook on life and his aloofness both interesting and refreshing. The fact that he was the black sheep from not only his family but his homeland as well made him all the more intriguing and added depth to his motivations, which incidentally also made for a strong introduction filled with detailed insights into the political and cultural background of the Amauan peoples.
Pallegina, Hiravias Second Tier
I was most excited for Pallegina given her Avian Godlike background when the characters were announced for the game, but unfortunately her characterization kind of fell flat for me. Her quest seems completely uninspired. Her background, while interesting in terms of relevance to todays struggles that woman still face with gender equality was completely disregarded. An opportunity missed in my opinion that could have been built upon in an interactive way throughout the game, adding more depth to her character. The same can be said about her Godlike Status. I understand what they were trying to do with her character, (stoic and reserved, given her past) but the dialogue options when we ask about her past felt extremely matter-of-fact and ultimately led nowhere.
Hiravias also had an interesting story and I definitely enjoyed him more than Pallegina. I also found him extremely useful as a party memeber. He hid behind his humor in order to deal with the rejection and challenges he faced throughout his life and his complete lack of confidence. Some of his lines however fell flat, not necessarily because of written content mind you, but for me, it was rather the delivery of his lines (when voiced) that bothered me. For the most part I thought he was well voiced but sometimes I just felt the tone was off. His story is interesting but I still didn't gravitate towards him as I did the roster above (not including Pallegina).
Sagani Last Tier
Yes she is a boreal dwarf, or in the real world, what equates to an Inuit. I enjoyed the diversity she brought in terms of culture and lifestyle. The complete non-chalance of being away from her family for years knowing that they'd be fine without her, putting her sacred duties over her own personal feelings. I'm native american so I dug the cultural diversity and her pet Ittuumak. It made a lot of sense to make her class a ranger for that fact. That's about it though, she kind of felt out of place for some reason, and I'm not referring to her background. I can't really express my feelings regarding her development with the right words. She felt like a ghost (as if I never would have noticed if she wasn't implemented in the game at all). Her story was interesting enough, if not tedious as a drawn out fetch quest. The ending was what was interesting to me. The ironic twist that I kind of saw coming but was happy to see happen none the less... It puts things in perspective when that type of thing happens and you've been searching for so long.
Anyways... I always write to much. Interesting thread. Thanks for sharing
