Help with the Black Hound "task", please...
Okay, the Inn Keeper of the Black Hound has me going to look for the missing person possibly in the direction of the Vale Wood... I go there, and I find a wagon and some overtturned barrels, and some dead bodies... Now it never tells me to go back and speak to the Inn Keeper... Am I missing something?? Did the game derp?? Please help...

He's not in the Valewood, but in the woods area you came from just before you reached the Gilded Vale.

That area IS Valewood.

He's on the right side of the map, above the ruins.
Thanks guys, I'll try those out... I appreciate the help... 8-)

Good advice. Maps are filled with story / encounters / secrets. Clear them. Search every corner. You'll be surprised.
Sure thing Sin... I usually do with this game because it just looks so purty, and I LOVE just looking around and seeing if I can get any good loot...

I'm also wondering about finding the missing owner. There are 5 dead people in Valewood (and also two spirits wandering around you can't talk to) - the first one at the top of the map when you enter from Cilant Lis; the 2nd one in the upper ruins; 3rd one next to the stream that doesn't have any treasure; 4th one in the xaurip camp; 5th one is Perly in the bear cave. When I bring the dog back to Valewood, he doesn't repsond to any of the bodies. You would think the missing owner is the body by the stream, as it didn't highlight when the cursor was on it on your first time through the area. But it remained "blank" when I returned with the dog.

It's not a big deal but just one of those small, inconsequential, nagging questions. Or maybe a glitch.

If I remember correctly that guy is very much alive and is a hostage in the bandit camp on the map.
(Getting close to the bandits will trigger some dialog interaction that clears this up)

I guess if you AoE nuke the camp from a distance it would be possible to kill him by mistake.

His name is Tenfrith, and I hope you didn't kill the little feller by nuking the bandits or otherwise mistaking him for a bandit! There's a cut-scene where the bandits attack you, but it should be obvious Tenfrith is not one of them...

You remember correctly but he (Tenfrith) isn't the owner of the dog or the inn. But Are you supposed to speak to Pasca the new owner when you have the dog with you and then go back to Valewood? Has anyone solved this mystery?

You will not find the previous owner of the inn in the game.
The story about the owner is supposedly an allusion to the fact that the kickstarter backer who paid for the chance to participate in designing the location never replied to Obsidian's emails and kind of "dissappeared".

Also google the cover art for Black Isle's abandoned sequel to Baldur's Gate called "The Black Hound" and take a close look at the stained glass window inside the inn.
