question about recovery/firearm reloading
I understand that the "recovery" period is the delay in between actions both mechanically and "narratively" ...

but why aren't my firearms being reloaded during the recovery period. It doesn't make sense to have them just stand there (for upwards of two seconds, depending on how the fight is going) doing nothing and THEN start to reload the gun.

I get that in order for all the mechanics to work, you cant just have one weapon that blends the recovery period with the reload (ostensibly "swing") animation, but couldnt the reload the sped up, or improve recovery periods for firearms so that the relaod is more appropriate?

Well the recoil hurts... LOL

Get the Gunner talent if you want to use firearms. It's noticeably better. Also, I believe they're wheel-lock firearms, that's why they take a while to get wound up.

Fair enough, and @Radene, that is definitely true for the arbalest.

it's just so painful to watch my back line stand around like city workers 50% of a fight

I am going to do some data collection, but I have a feeling that more than 25% of my firearms shots are fired "after the fact" and completely wasted because they spent the entire fight reloading.

*that* being said, man do guns hit like trucks in this game. (im obsessed with guns because the first time I found The Disappointer, i tried it out and very first shot insta gibbed the ambush archer for 28 dmg, lol, lucky shot, but it got me hooked, now im chasing the high like a coke addict)

i like to use firearms with my sneak rogue... Sometimes, it's kill the target with one hit. Most of time, i keep her back and forget about her ;x

i regularly use them, Durance and Kana especially, they are my riflemen in the back row in every party i make.

Kana's chant that reduces reload is excellent as well, there are lots of ways to make them work.

For whatever reason though, as you've pointed out, they are pretty useless on rogues because of the limitations of sneak attack (2 meters, 2 seconds).

I give Durance the arqebus from Kana, and then buy Kana a blunderbuss (if I haven't found one) when I hit up D-Bay.

then my middle line is Grieving Mother and Aloth, buffing and crowd controlling.

main character in my potd party is another fighter, so i have two tanks up front, the rest of my parties experiment with different classes.

The recovery period is basically where they are modeling how fast your character can move which is primarily impacted by armor. It does look a bit strange to see them just standing there but that's not really what they're doing, think of it like a 2D display of the 4D... time.

If the reload times were faster you could just put a couple of tanks out front and blast away with firearms with the balance of your party which would make the game probably pretty boring.

I realize that, WarCrime, which is why I even say that in my original post.

Thanks, though.

My contention isn't about difficulty or timing of the attack itself, rjb388, it's just the appearance of half a party standing around "appearing" to be doing nothing (like city workers :P )

just a cosmetic criticism, don't worry, i'm not peeing on your nerd parade.

I agree, they should have just had them do jumping jacks instead of the painfully slow reload animation that ,apparently is quite bothersome for you.

You are a little too worried about every single animation that goes across the screen. This is a game where you know you are playing a video game. 'Immersion' doesn't mean much if the actual game is crappy as hell....and they have been lately. I would play this before Skyrim any day of the week.

Maybe if they added the flash and smoke, then your character can be sitting their blinking and choking for the time it takes for the reload animation to start.

It would fit.
Part of it is just how the game was designed - each action has a recovery time and firing and reloading are both actions, ergo they have recovery times.

I really enjoy how people keep parroting the same thing over again, as thought I didn't say it in my OP. lol.

Chuckles, you've got the spirit. :)

god forbid we discuss things on a discussion forum :)

supertrooper, your reply is exactly what i was getting at with my "peeing on your nerd parade" comment, you assume im complaining. there is a distinct, educated, and informed difference between complaint and criticism.

my criticism of the disconnect between the actual game mechanics of recovery + action animation is just that .. a criticism ... something to maybe look at in future titles, or whatever.

not once did i say

"OMFG THIS GAME EFFING SUX BECAUSE OF BORK RELOAD" (until just now, lol.)

hahaha, you guys give me laughs.

no need for such hostility, rjb388, i am just making comments, not unravelling yoru symbolic order.

It's because each bullet is so expensive that your companions are deciding whether to fire the next shots and forgo lunch, or fire the next shot to get lunch.

They are chewing a rock and spitting out a perfectly round musket ball.
