Lit up the stone things on the wall, and got two people to stand on floor so they light up. Talks about a 'Soul Vessel' and a weapon and going down that tunnel/gap...

Have you got BOTH those pieces? If not, into the tunnel you go.

If you let 'it' go, you will only have 1 of the 2 pieces you need.

Remember that spider that was guarding the weapons you were sent to find? If not, go into the tunnel in the ritual room. He has the vessel, and apparently you have to choose to kill him to get it. I chose to let him live and can't do the ritual. Sucks, but it's just a spear anyway.

Then you did what I did and can't do it.

Didn't think I could take that room as was very low level at the time. Don't know the spawn code for the vessel either.

I wish the game had explained where to find the vessel. Maybe I missed something, but I had to go digging through forum posts to find out.

Yeah it's stupid. It should at least give you some kind of insight what your actions will do! If anything, he should of given you the vessel because you let him survive!!

was me a few days ago. I even sold the spear by mistake and had to shlepp about the world trying to find it again.

And when I first did the temple, I didn't know the language.

So, when I had both the language and the spear, was giddy with excitement, only to read about the vessel.

WTF is that, I said. And off to the forums I went.

Pretty disappointed. No warning at all, no insight prior to be had, as far as I know.

Is there more than one vessel? I got the one from the spider dude down the tunnnel

I still didn't figure out the language but did figure out that the final room has floor runes. Two folks have to stand on the symbols you choose.

The spear you get is pretty powerful.

And the spear is utter crap, it's just an standard exceptional quality spear with some random enchant depending on which runes you lit. You can buy a much better one in Dyrford.

It seemed pretty explicit.

The ritual speaks of a "soul vessel" and you notice stone-like object with (part of) a soul in it.

Kinda open 'n shut.

You can do it if you join the Dozens - it's their analog to Doemenel's murder assignment and Crucible's Forge Knights technology delivery, and is available as soon as you do previous quest for them (armor retrieval).
As for the quest: it's spelled out pretty cleanly if you know the language. If you don't - well, when you screw around with things you don't understand, stuff can and probably will get broken, no surprise there.
As for mindflayer - he clearly has something important and is saying he's taking it back to his people. If you let your benevolence get the better of you - you have no one to blame but youself (although I would've wasted him out of pure spite even if he had surrendered the vessel as a revenge for the countless times they mindcontrolled my guys in Od Nua).
