How do you make NPCs turn back to not being hostile?
For some reason an entire area is now instantly aggro'd when I enter, including quest NPCs. Is there any way to reset them to not being hostile?

I presume you "stole" something from a container, i. e. clicked on a table/bookhelf/desk and took some items despite the fact cursor turned red.

When you do, every character that has seen you do it turns hostile. I do not think there is a way to make them complacent again.

Stealing doesn't make people hostile, it just lowers your reputation

Not when you steal in front of people. They attack you.

Hmm. I am pretty sure it turned hostile the monks in Raedric's castle and the acolytes in the Copper-something district library in Defiance bay.

If you are talking about the Hall of Revealed Mysteries becoming hostile when you steal the Theorems of Pangram then it's a bug. This will happen even if you aren't caught.

Fortunately there is a work around. The work around requires you to be stealthed BEFORE you enter the building. This will make them docile again but you will have to do this every single time.

I wonder, should I liken this to

a) "Stop right there, criminal scum!"
b) "HALT! HALT! HALT! HALT!"

But yeah they'll stay hostile, so be careful who you piss off!

It was Brackenbury, I loaded a previous save and went back, this time I got attacked by assassins, but no one else aggro'd on me. Last time, I was only attacked by the NPCs, not assassins.

Same here. I've also been having this issue in Brackenberry. All NPCs, at lest initially present, hve become hostile. Once the first wave is over they are back to friendly. I just failed one of the quests because I was attacked by the NPC supposed to give it to me. Whenever I have gotten caught stealing I've always reloaded a saved game so I don't think that is the problem.
