Save games fix suggestion from user in Obsidian forums=works for me.

Hello.The folllowing is a thread from user "aeolisio" providing his/her solution for save games fix until Obsidian provides us with the patch.I will be informing and thanking him/her afterwards-it's late in my country already-but I wanted to try help folks who are facing the issue and want to play-I hvae to go to bed myself now,cry-

In quotes is the thread as posted,bwlow are my my observations and how I made it work.


"I have found a working savegame fix the will load savegames and create new working non corrupt savegames

This has been tested and working on 3 different machines with 5 different save files myself and have had 2 other friends fix their savegames with this method.

First delete the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Obsidian Entertainment

Then delete the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Obsidian Entertainment

If you have any saves in C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Pillars of Eternity

Copy them to C:\Users\username\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity

Run the game as admin and load the most recent save

Move your char and save a new save.

Without exiting the game reload that new save.

Save again in the same save.

Exit the game.

That should work and create new files in LocalLow and Local\Temp

Though its probably unnecessary before i exit i save then i load my save and resave the same save everytime before i exit the game now. I have my 60+ hour save now to 85 hours without an issue on multiple machines.

Please dont ask questions or expect me to explain this again if it works great if it doesnt or you cant figure it out good luck."



I can confirm all my saves are fine and reporting for duty.Very important!:

When you run game from within it's folder from Steapps/Common as an administrator you will notice only version number and of course no "Steam".Also,the problem appears to remain.It's not!It's fixed!

Exit game,navigate to Windows explorer,undr your local hard drive,users,your user name,App Data/Local/Temp/Obsidian Enteratinment/Pillars of Eternity.You should see a compressed folder with the name"loaded save".Double click to browse it,all your save information should be there.Don't touch it.

Boot your game as usual,then,try the saving and loading procedure.

I can confirm myself the fix works 100% for all mysaves.

Please @froum modes and admins move this as high in thread as possible,I hope it helps folks.

Please people contribute reporting whether this is helpful or not.

Does anyone know what problems this fixes? Is it for things like rangers losing pets or what?

I only know it restores yorur saves to a loading state.Thread creator does not mention anything else,you can check his/her own thread over at the Obsidian forums.

You are most welcome.Current game breaking bugs are killers,but at least our progress-a bugged one neverthless-is there.I will restart immediately after patch has been issued,but I allready love my current char and group.

Yeah just had an issue where I tried to quick-load in combat with the game paused, location: Sanitorium.

- Screen went black, when I tried to reload I got a black screen but could hear game-sounds on/off as I toggled escape menu.

-When I restarted game quick/auto saves were gone.

If you have any saves in C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Pillars of Eternity

- Skipped this step as I had no saves located here to begin with. Followed every other step and it seems to be fixed.

The way i resolved it was to delete everytthing in the appdata directory [C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\Obsidian Entertainment and C:\Users\User\AppData\LocalLow\Obsidian Entertainment\Pillars of Eternity (made backup of loadedsave.zip) folder and delete all saves but the most recently modified in the user/saved games/pillars of eternity folder, then started the game once and placed the backup of loadedsave.zip
and it now works like it used to. I reccomend you make a backup of all your saves just in case the most recently modified one is the one corrupted.Also ive noticed that skipping the logos at the start of the game with LMB 9/10 times resulted in the game not recognising my save files, use the space bar instead.

I tried that but now the continue and load buttons are grayed out and it doesn't see any saves at all
