Secret walls is there a general trick?
I can't count the number of secret walls I quoted but each time it's a specific element that allows open it, for example in tutorial a special event, or somewhere else a button on the other side, or just a NPC dialog that opens it.

I saw many never opened so I started wonder if some hadn't a more general trick to open them. Once I get through one but that was more a bug :-) When a game use a very specific mechanism tricks you could never find it and Im' asking to be sure it's not one of those stuff.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking, but there are often secret doors that have switches or hidden triggers that you can only see when you're in scouting mode. They will appear with a purple/pinkish highlight. :)

Mechanics skill = detection

You have to be sneaking for this to work, which is why most people play on double speed with stealth constantly on.

Thanks both, you perfectly answered my question.

Well it was fine until again I find some secret walls and not how open them. Ok some could be dialogs triggered, but in dungeons I suppose the only other case is find a secret trigger, this meaning my mechanic level isn't high enough right?

Yes :v get a custom companion Rogue and mechanic 10 asap

Thanks but 10? That's a lot, I doubt it's that much for what I quoted, would be more for hidden objects than hidden trigger I guess.

Well no rogue for my first play, I have yet to find an item with Mechanic+ quoted rest but just +1 My main char is focused on this skill, but he started with only +1 if I remember well. I don't think I found/use any companion with a better context for the skill.

And even if 2 custom character and 4 companions is a nice balance, I prefer stick to my current party.

Mechanics don't reveal secrets, only traps. For secrets, it's either perception or stealth.
(I thought it was perception, but I started leveling Eder's stealth and he is starting to detect secrets whereas before it was only my rogue)

does the party member who has the high perception need be the one actually doing the searching or can they just be in the party for you to find the secrets? I am assuming they would have to do it themselves but want to be 100% sure.

Yes it has to be the right character.

whoever is responsible for "requires sneaking to detect hidden stuff" needs to never touch a game design table ever again.

No this comment is wrong, you need activate search.

One detail, the game force activates search and sneak at same time, but it is clear on that.

lol look at them toggling sneaking all the time, haha, job well done - the mechanic designer probably.

That's something else and it's much further than that, mostly any player use constant sneak with speed x4 so standard speed and sneaking. So in PoE when you explore, search or rush, you always sneak, and ok this is a point of design screwed up.

I think PoE2 targeted the problem a bit, but I don't remind how. Anyway PoE1 is an experimentation with dev trying pick "old school" designs and merge them to modern design or adapt them to a more modern spirit. The result is a lot of its design is wobbly, but dev designing something they don't really like themselves, and trying imagine what want players, no surprise it's half broken.
