Max Skill level?
Purely curious - what is the max you can raise a skill (Lore, Stealth, etc.), presuming there is a cap other than the lvl cap limiting skill points?

Bump. Is it 9?
MattStriker 3 ABR 2015 a las 19:06
I think it's a soft rather than a hard cap, so the limit probably really is the available skill points.

I'm still not certain, it seems to me there is no cap. I also tried to make another thread asking if it is worth taking skills past a certain point (Ex: 10 Lore = Lvl 5 scrolls, is there a point past that?) but didn't get answers.

It is the steam forums, many good questions get buried under a pile of bigotry and self rightesness.

Well, if it was me coding this thing I'd leave it open-ended because it's pretty damn obvious they're shooting for a franchise here. There's definitely going to be an expansion, probably with an increased level cap, and depending on how it ends (haven't finished it yet) there might be a sequel with a BG2-style character import feature. So soft-capping makes sense there.

alation, unfortunately you're right. I probably should have titled my thread with capslock and something incendiary toward either Obsidian or a racial group if I wanted people to take notice.

Matt I agree, although having a level cap doesn't make sense in that respect and at most shows lazy balancing of end-game content.

Anyway that would still leave the question of is there any reason to raise skills past a certain point in the current incarnation of the game? And if not then what is that point?

Well I am still finding traps I can not disarm so I will still be improving my mechanics skill as much as possible.
So far aside from scripted interactions requiring a high(ish) athletics skill that ANY character can solve, none have required more than 2-4 points in skills.
Qiox 3 ABR 2015 a las 19:24
I recall seeing someone talking about the mechanic not working bug saying they had a 13 mechanic skill and were trying to open difficulty 9 and 10 stuff.

That's an issue specific to player-created hired characters. If it's a main or pregenerated NPC trying to do it, it's not that particular bug.
Single Draft Dodger 3 ABR 2015 a las 19:29
Ok, so I've seen stuff that requires mechanics 10 to unlock. Lvl 5 scrolls require Lore 10.

Personally I'm not trying to powergame and I've been spreading points fairly even but so far (granted I'm not particularly far) I've not seen any reason to raise any skill past 10.
BottomOfSeaS 3 ABR 2015 a las 19:49
There is no option to raise skill above 10 on character except item buffs and others. Just no arrow to buff, you know.

10 as I recall.
chairman_mentos 3 ABR 2015 a las 19:55
it's 10, I hit the cap already.
avantre 3 ABR 2015 a las 20:00
Technically it's 10, but you can raise it beyond that with bonuses. My Lore is 15, for example, due to +2 for chanter, +2 for Artist, and +1 for the Hylea's boon permanent increase
Boink 4 ABR 2015 a las 0:49
It's about 29 in the engine.

21 is where the bonuses stop.

You can reach 16/17 legitimately ingame for stealth / mechanics using racial bonuses, items & inns.
