They keep your hair dry in rain.

Also, later there will be some with stat boosts.

There are magic helms in the game. They will give you stats and stuff.

can i turn off the visuals of a helm or not cause whats the point of having different hair choices if i just have to cover it up??

At least frog helm looks sick on my paladin set.

I did find a helm with stat bonuses. so they can be useful,
Forlorn Mar 29, 2015 @ 4:03am
so get a stat boost and look like crap or no stat and actually keep some meaning in the character creation portion of the game. well the cosmetics part anyway.

The only helmets with stat boost I found so far are the helmet that looks like a traditional knight helm aka bucket head and chain helm.

In other news - Helmets are just like Cloaks. Some are just for show while others have benefits.

Cloaks look cool and add to the character while a helm just hides the head and generaly looks like crap. my OP ofcourse

The game really lacks loot. They decided to have an enchanting system instead, but even then game lacks weapons/armor/accessories so much (in comparison to BG, for example).

At first my party was wearing helmets anyway, just in case (to avoid crits :P ) But after a while I decided to take the helmets off.
CrazyAvitus Mar 29, 2015 @ 5:17am
Too bad that Godlike cannot wear helm.
Mardulf Mar 29, 2015 @ 5:43am
yeah since helmets were always worn to be fashionable.... not to protect the head or anything... why couldn't they give helmets some benefit against crits or some minor ac with let say
-perception/accuracy or something. so far i don't regret taking a godkin who can't equip headgear, though haven't found headgear with stats on yet.

Because this is a fantasy RPG - Not an attempt at realistic combat simulation. People have complained over being forced to wear helmets since the days before Baldurs Gate.

In most games in the genre you have the ability to hide it - Not sure why they didn't go that route in Pillars though to be honest...
