As long as you stay on the west side of your stronghold, nothing should be too much of a challenge. There is more than enough xp on that side to overlevel the next content.
not tryin to be snarky, i had similiar issues at first (coming from IWD, BG), but now i can tell you the amount of complexity and tactics this game offers owns old D&D hard and you could probably even kill some of the later enemies with lvl 1-2, simply by applyin said mechanics right.
