Best Tank Class
Hi all, just wondering what people think are the best tank classes are what are good stats. From what I have read and experienced (before PC died on me) the three that look promising is

Paladin: Passive bonus to saving throws / High Starting Deflect
Fighter: Contstant Endurance Regen / High Starting Deflect

I was thinking perhaps either chanter or cipher (cannot remember which one, one starts with high deflect saves) could be an option as well.

From what I have seen, it looks possible a tank could go Save Throw Heavy (Resolve, Int, Perception), HP Heavy (Con) or a mix.

What are peoples thoughts?

You're either looking at a fighter or a barbarian. Paladins are a hybrid between a fighting class and a caster.

With the high saving throws from Faith Passive I would think Paladin would make a good tank, would have higher deflect and will and fort saving throws vs a similar warrior or barbarian?

I use a fighter and a chanter, works pretty well for me

Cool, how are they made, HP or Saves focues or a bit of both?

From my limited testing I find Deflect to be very important but not sure about the other saving throws but think they would become more prevalant as the game goes on?

Barbarians aren't meant to be tanks, they're meant to do damage. They CAN do it, but that's not what they're best at.

Rangers are said to be good tanks too, they have a high deflect rate

Fighter would be the easiest choice with Endurance regeneration. Paladins and Chanters would also work. Chanters is the more complex and fun choice, with buffs, debuffs, and summons thrown in.

Yeah, make a Chanter.

Also, you have to consider Engagment. It's not enough for a tank to just not die, they have to hold the enemies off the rest of the party too. Fighters are THE tanking class by design, but you can do it with others if you want. Depends on what kind of character exactly you want.

Fighter passives and modes are great for actual tanking, and their endurence regeneration allows them to stay up. They are very easy to build as a tank.

I would not use a Cipher. Their deflect is good, but they have to be doing damage to build Focus, which takes away from their tanking.

Chanters, well the companion you get has a high deflection and average endurance, i just find them to be better in the frontlines with my fighter, rogue and paladin so they benefit more from his aura's, it's been working pretty well for me so far

I strongly disagree - They make for excellent group tanks.

Good to know.

Rangers? Assume they would need to be melee rangers then?

No where near as good as a fighter. Carnage is not exactly a tanking skill with the way aggro works in theis game. (Engagment)

I'm not saying they don't but they're better at group damage, it's what they were designed for. All the classes are fairly flexible, but they all have specific things they were intended for that they will be best at.

So looks like we have a number of potential tanking classes (I love it when games give you choice like this instead of shoehorning classes into roles).

Question is then, how do we rate HP vs Saves vs Talent abilities?

Also there is no aggro management per say is there? It's more like BG so make sure you have your tank in the front to grab the enemeies initial attention?
